I have raw ground beef and raw chicken pieces that both have the sell by date as September 2006, are they still good to cook or not? They have been in the freezer since that time or before.

After the Sell by date you have about 7-10 days to use the meat or poultry. in the refridgerator Though you should throughly wash each item before you and check or any out of the ordinary smells. With Frozen items you have about 6 months to use it. After that you run the risk of freezer burnt food.

Yes.
Freezing prevents salmonella and other bacteria.
You can actually keep meat frozen for years as long as it doesnt
suffer from "freezer burn" and the freezer temp stays constant.

Freezing is a good money saving technique. Things like shrimp,
chicken (even roasted chicken), vegetables (fresh!), cakes, tuna, etc. go right into the freezer. The day before I want to use it, I stick it in the fridge to thaw. If it stays in t fridge too long it could go bad, so it is a good idea to cook the items by the next day. Good luck!

Until it goes bad-this is a hard question to answer-do you mean how long does it last raw and sitting in the fridge?in the freezer?or sitting out on the counter? raw in the fridge-about 3 days if you are lucky cooked in the fridge-should be reheated to over 40 degrees Celcius at least once every 3 days(but it will dry out if you do this too many times so eat it) frozen solid in the freezer-about 6 months depending on how well you wrapped it-the more air you leave in with it the more chance of spoilage As to your chicken bought on June 3rd-if you freeze it it will last for 6 months, if you leave it in the fridge uncooked well it is now June 7th, either cook it today or freeze it today as long as it doesn't smell strongly.

As long as it wuz frozen by the sell date & doesnt have any freezer burns on the food, I would say it is good. I'd say no more than 2-3 months at the most.

if they have been in the freezer not stop then they are good-IF they do not have freezer burn-if they do the meat will not hurt you but will taste really nasty-it will look sorta tan colored and the texture will look course and dried out. I use a vacuum sealer and have meat that is 3 to 4 years old and still good.

If they have freezer burn (white fuzz or crystals forming) then I would say to throw it out, better to be safe than sorry. Also if the ground beef looks brown instead of dark red to pink then it needs to be trashed. Chicken usually keeps fine and only thaw out what you need.

As long as they have been frozen they are ok. Frozen meat should not be left in the freezer much over a year.

if its in the freezer until the day you cook it you can keep it for like a year but if it is thawed out...no more than 3 days.

By Federal Regulations, they suggest no more than 3-5 days in refrigeration. But no more than 4-5 months in freezing. But it varys on packing.
