Spirituality. Sad to say - most religion have become materialistic - it's more about controlling power, controlling people for selfish & ungodly reasons.

Religion and spirituality work hand in hand. To have religion without spirituality would not lead a person closer to God.
Spirituality would be someone's relationship with their God, and religion would be the practicing of that faith.
Businessmen and politicians cannot control your spirituality. It is one of those things that is in your control, such as your conscience, your will power, and your sense of self. The only thing that policy can affect is how you practice your religion.

generally spirituality but it depends on who you ask, some people can't even separate the two...
I think spirituality too... I'm not a religious person...
but then I don't even belive in God as a being (some omnipotent old dude in the sky just doesn't make sense to me no matter how you spin it)...
Internally tho there are many things spiritual...
from your own quirkiness, to general mindfullness...
I, at least, think they are important...
no ritual about eating fish or not eating fish or pork or beef on any particular day of the week or year or whatever, isn't going to mean much (aside from respect for tradition/legacy, etc...)
That being said I think we all (as a whole) should honour the animals we sacrifice for food more than we probably do...

Spirituality is a personal attachment to God, Allah, the Divine, the Great Unknown, Love energy, or whatever folks choose to call that which we can never truly understand.
I belief that Religion can be one way to bring people to a greater spiritual awareness... and also a way to cheat people out of money, dictate what God (etc) said, and, unfortunately in many cases, create a political force out of uneducated and misinformed people.
I certainly consider myself more spiritual than religious, and I attend church weekly. My church community (educated and questioning of almost everything), is important to my spiritual connection, since I find God in the form of Love and understanding in these people.
"Is religion what happens when businessmen and politicians control spirituality?" It can be. Beware of false prophets.

spirituality is the relationship that I have with Him=FAITH
religion is a physical act of believers =WORKS
So I'd say spirituality is closer.
If I have one without the other it will not last and may not be sincere
faith without works is death

A spiritual person is closer to God because the Bible says: " God is a spirit and he should be worshiped in spirit and true" and also says " Happy are those who are conscious of their spiritual needs". All of us are created with the need to worship God.

Religion is what happens when we get to big for our britches, and think we can outdo God. Or start putting things above God.
If you want to be closest to God, forget religion and spirituality and work on relationship, and communication.

Spirituality (that is based upon God as He is revealed in the Holy Bible).
You aren't far off with the second question.

And then, when your religion involes no businessmen or politicians, people say you're in a cult. Why can't people just accept eachother's spirituality?
