Anyone who answers with statements like "Bush is a moron" clearly has no military experience themselves, and therefore needs to look in a mirror to see the moron.

We are escalating troop levels because radical Muslims have done the same, and because sectarian violence is increasing. We need more troops in Iraq to get both under control. It's a big country, and the mission has changed. The existing troop levels were fine for fighting a conventional war again Saddam's Army. In fact, we won that one by moving farther, faster, than any Army has ever done - faster than the German blitzkreig in WWII.

The radical Islamic forces in the mideast see a weakness in the US, where a large number of politicians are putting the opportunity to gain power above US national security. They do not have the stomach to actually do what it takes to win this war (we call them "Democrats"). The Islamists see pansy Americans who, because of a few lives lost, are getting to be afraid of the Islamic forces. The Islamic leaders are stepping up the optempo of the guerrila-style tactics, knowing that this will increase the opposition to the war by liberal factions in the US. The radical Muslims cannot beat the US head-to-head, but they can defeat us by using unconventional tactics that make the weaker Americans ("Democrats") whine and cry about how we are losing, and eventually withdraw (i.e., "Lose")

Bush, a clear-headed Republican who understands this, realizes that a stronger force is needed to beat the Islamist forces and establish Iraq as another true democracy in that region. The more democracies in the mideast, the saner that region will get, and the less chance we'll have crazy Arab or Persian radicals heading to the US with weapons of mass destruction.

Actually, an even more significant troop increase will probably be necessary if the US is going to win this war. Bush's only error is that he knows that may be unpopular with a public that has been fooled by liberal politicians and the liberal press, and he is tempering his strong security stance with some political comprimises of his own. As the US now has more liberals in power, we stand a much greater chance of losing in Iraq, thereby giving the radicals a much stronger stance against the US in the future. I hope Bush increases troop strength even more, so that doesn't happen.

What is everyone here talking about? Haven't we done enough for Iraq. We've overthrown their dictator, killed him, set up a democracy for them and still many of them don't want us there! Hell, if they can't appreciate that, we don't need to be there. In Vietnam we did the exact same thing, increased the number of troops in that area and what did it lead to? More casualties. Casualties aren't just numbers, they each represent lives lost, and great people who will never be seen or heard from again. I'm sorry but I don't feel the need to spoonfeed Iraq and police the world if it costs lives. It's pointless. If they don't even want Democracy, fine, that's their problem. If we force it on them we contradicts the very thing we aim for- Freedom. We need to let Iraq take care of Iraq for a while and focus on our own problems instead of being arrogant enough to try and take care of others.

Because Bush does not care about the American people, and especially does not care about the national deficit that he is making worse since he took office (when he first took office there was an 180 billion dollar surplus) now because of Bush we are so far in debt that I doubt we will ever find our way out again, and the fact that he has sent more troops to Iraq means LESS protection here in the USA and leaves us open for more terrorisim!!!

I got my question deleted for an innocent religious question with no connotations, just something I didn't understand. There are clearly some people that think your discussion of the war is a sensitive issue for them. Remember that it's the yahoo members who are reporting you, I don't think that there is a person at Yahoo approving every one of them. Just ask the question again. Maybe it'll get by this time.

Because he wants to be known as a COLOSSAL failure, not just a failure. And, he doesn't want the war to end because his rich friends won't make money if that happens.

Because his belief is that he can do anything if he throws enough money (and in this case) lives at it. Which is probably why every business he's ever gone into failed miserably...
