So, I went to the hair salon today. Asked for a trim on the ends and some layers. In the end, the only thing that got done was the bottom trimming but no layers. At the beginning, I thought for sure that she would do layers because she had my hair pinned up and flipped in all directions. But then I was left thinking, "Is this it?" My hair is still the same length all around. In fact, it looks exactly the same as it did this morning, except maybe for a few inches shorter. I could have done that myself and gotten the same results...
Is there such a thing as just end layers? Because that's the only thing I got. Maybe the stylist misunderstood what I wanted and thought I only wanted the tips touched up? How do I explain that I want layers all through my hair?

Im a hairstylist and have been for 3 years and i can honestly say I hate those types of stylists... I have met soo many stylists that get you in there chair and all they care about is getting you out of it again, getting paid and moving to the next customer in less than 10minutes disreguarding whatever you want.. As for me I take the time to know what someone wants cause honestly you shouldnt start till you are completely sure you know everything about the style they wish to have.. As for your hair if you are willing to go into a salon for a layer cut again you could try for example telling the lady I will like long layers then with your hand show them where you would like the shortest layer to be and how much you would like off the bottom perimeter if any. When Im in a stylists chair I judge there ability on how they figure out what I want by what I do with my clients I have a huge lists of questions I which can apply to different responses I may recieve to help me get an image... if your stylist doesnt ask you enough questions s/he is just being lazy and jumping the gun. One of my all time favs thou is customers who tell stylists to go wild and do whatever they want and some stylists actually do I just laugh cause I know for a fact people who say that still have a pic in there head of what they want the stylist just has to know how to word her next question to go with that me I ask things like "whats to short, what dont you like and what do you" etc
Sorry started rambling hah I hope I answered your question before I got carried away..

As a hairstylist, it's my job to make sure I know exactly what a client wants and do it. If unsure grab on of the 100's of books laying around the salon. If u are not satisfied go back for a redo or get your $ back. You are paying for a service and should get what you pay for!!! Call ur stylist first thing tomorrow and tell them u aren't satisfied. But be nice about it- you don't want to insult the person with the sharp object in their hand lol. go to thehairstyler.com they have 100's of pics and u should be able to find the perfect do for u. Just remember the customer is always right. Don't pay again if u love it just give her alittle tip

Tell her how short you want your shortest layers (under your nose, below your chin, etc whatever you want) and that you want the back of your head layered too (if you do). Maybe she was confused b/c you said you wanted a trim. Did you want the layers to frame your face? (say that too if you do) Its probably easier to take a picture in with you, but if you can't find one you like, explain what you want in as much detail as you can, and a professional stylist will work with your hair until you're satisfied. Sorry you didn't get what you want, that's incredibly frustrating. Good luck!

Okay I dont think she heard you because that is definitely not layers!!! When you tell a hair stylist you want layers they will understand you completely lol..And theyll ask from where you want the layers starting from (ex: from chin down or bangs n layers, V shaped cut, or U shaped cut, or step cut) But seriously go back to the salon and tell them that its not what you asked for and they would most likely redo your hair for free. I hope you didnt tip her though lol.

If you are unhappy wit your cut go back and take a pic of what you want with you. I always take a pic with me. Sometimes the hairdresser is afraid to cut too much. I know I pretty much now tell my lady to do whatever and she does unless I want a totally diff cut and then I take a pic or two with me.

go back to her and tell her you are not satisfied with the cut, or lack of. My hairdresser gives us up to a week to go back to her, and ya, my hair is layered, too thick to have it otherwise

If your not satisfied go back in with a picture and ask them to redo it. They have to do what pleases the customer.

go back and say that you paid for layers and you didnt get that..and they will correct their mistake....tell them that you specifically want all around layers.....tell them to use the razored comb.....if you want that choppy look tell them you want razored layers
