Yep u can, that is why they sell it like that. I just put a bag in my cup, fill it up with super hot water, add sugar and cream, put the lid on it and go...but about 3 mins. is enough. The longer it steeps, the stronger it gets.

Don't pour boiling water over any bag, coffee or tea. This causes the coffee grinds or tea leaves to fall out of the filter. I'd pour the water first and then dunk the bag with a spoon.
For a medium strong cup of coffee, I do mine for 5 minutes. If you don't like it strong or want it stronger, adjust the time. The longer it sits the stronger it will be.

Why not? All coffee makers pass the water over the coffee gounds in one way or another. And get this, people use to eat coffee beans. I found some interesting coffee facts on this site.

in the olden days it was called cowboy coffee, you took a kettle of boiling water and threw a handful of coffee in to the kettle, brought it back up to a boil, set it near the edge of the heat, and let sit until the grounds settled about 4-5 minutes, it was great and i still remember the first cup I ever had

You do not steep coffee you brew it.
How much coffee placed in the brew cup will determine its strength.
