whenever I try to watch a trailer, the following message appears:
No suitable plugins were found.
Unknown plugin (Application/x-mplayer2).
I went to Microsoft's site to manually install the plugin, but all that wound up happening was me upgrading to windows media player 11.

That's probably because Windows Media Player 11 is quite new right now. It may take some time before you find them when they become available.

I am holding off for at least a good year before I consider upgrading to Media Player 11. I use Media Player 10 for now.

There's always quick time as well and you can either purchase it or download it for free.

If these two aren't what you want then maybe check into another media player.

You can always try out some trials to see which one suits your needs.

I'd try using QuickTime from apple

because you have to download certain files and it might think that u are trying to listen to video instead
