I took a couple classes at the University of Chicago, and I seem to recall that they accept evolution.

(Yes, that's a Jesuit school.)

Catholics are not mandated to either accept or reject the Theory of Evolution.

It is possible for one to believe in Intelligent Design as well as the Theory of Evolution. Possessing a clear understanding of both will show that they complement each other, not contradict.

Evolution is a scientific theory not a religion.

The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.

The religious truth is that God created everything and declared all was good.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

The scientific defintion of THEORY is not the same as the regular one. Look it up - even Wikipeadia has some good explantions! Most, if not all major established Christian denominations accept evolution. eg:"Just because you work out how a watch is made- doesn't mean there wasn't a watchmaker..."
Catholics and the other major denominations do not take the creation story so literaly or simplisticaly. They see it as a spiritual truth, not a scientific one, It also helps to remove the problem of the Bibles contradiction as to the order of creation. It is seen as alligory or symbolism...
Adam (Allman) and Eve (Allwoman) as representing all humanity in its innocence and the Garden of Eden as the state of being at one with nature and inharmony with other living things. It's like looking at meaning in a poem or Shakespear...

>>I seem to recall that they accept evolution.<<

According to many here, Catholicism is nothing but a idol-worshipping pagan cult in league with Satan. Of course a pagan cult is going to accept evolution! It's the Devil's Doctrine!!!!!
