The link below has extensive info on the differences between Bipolar disorder and Borderline Personality disorder. Could it be though that your friend is just an addict? The way you describe her sounds just like a typical addict.

The difference between Bipolar and Boarder line personality disorders?
Bipolar is a chemical imbalance. It does both, speed up and slow down certain Nero transmitters in the brain. causing a roller coaster affect of ones emotions.

A borderline personality disorder would best be described as an, emotional regulatory disorder. Usually caused by actual trauma that occurred at a very young age. Abandonment is believed to play a huge roll in the effects of this disorder.
As an adult it plays out, through dis-placed emotional outbursts and a distorted self image.

As for your friend, she has a severe drug dependency and there is little you can do except find her help and support her through it.

She does not sound like someone with bipolar disorder which is a combination of depressive and manic (not at the same time) episodes over a period of time. Depending on the specifics of these episodes there are psychiatric diagnoses.

She sounds like she may be more of a borderline personality disorder or may just be drug induced or maybe just a lazy drugged-up bum.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can really do to help her unless she is willing to get help. If that is the case, you can always start with a detox program or a drug rehab program or NA (Narcotics Anonymous).

Whoever supports her needs to stop doing so. She is not bipolar. Personality disorder no...she does have a drug problem since she can not maintain herself. Her lying comes from the drugs she uses and lets them speak. She is in her own world where she sees nothing wrong with what she does or says. She needs rehab.

She's in a funk because of the drugs. They take over your life and the only thing you care about is getting more. If there is nothing you can do to make her stop, then the best thing you can do for her and yourself is to walk away and find another healthier friend. People like this will take you down with them and frankly as sad as it sounds, it's not worth it.

Bi polar is having highs and lows. Can switch in a split second. BPD is when your personality is borderline to being two or more different people so to speak. The drugs are making these problems worse!!!!!!!!!!!
Self esteem is number one issue.
Tell your friend to get out of bed, get a job, then you will help her/him when she begins to help herself, otherwise she is only going to drag you down down..

I don't think she has any of those, I think she has a drug problem. The only one that can help her is herself, she needs to hit rock bottom. Tough love is something you can give her tell her that you can not associate yourself with someone that is just giving up on themself. Tell her when she is willing to come around that you will be there to support her and that you will always care, but you can't help her anymore, if and when she comes out of it she will understand!! ! Be strong and it is nice to know that there are concerned people out there....
