get a type of program called an optimizer for your windows. it should optimize your settings and everything, i can recommend tuneup utilities 2007. take some things off of your start up list(start>run>"msconfig">start up> remove any you dont like or need. you should defragment your hardrives, i recommend using diskeeper. you should also compact and defrag your registry, i recommend registry mechanic. any questions? email me at puertorican_papi_03@yahoo.com as i am always looking for new ways to speed my pc up and am free to give advice on the same topic.

Click your start button, then find the box that says "Run"
click this, and then when a tiny window pops up, type in "msconfig" (no quotes) and press enter.
When this window pops up, click on the Startup tab and check or uncheck desired/undesired programs you wish to start when you start your computer

Start / Run / type msconfig
Hit Enter.
Go to the startup tab.
Uncheck any unneeded programs.
OK
Go to Start / Programs/ Startup
Delete all shortcuts
Restart.
Take note of what apps load in your task bar after startup.
Some things, like AIM, Yahoo Messanger, etc, you have to manually go in to their options and turn off the "load at startup" feature.
Go to control panel and uninstall all unneeded apps.
Restart.
Clean out all temp files.
Run defrag.
