for a mom: always believing in your child and encouraging them to be the best person they can be.
for a dad: provide the 'take care of yourself' talks. i.e. handling friends that treat them wrong. Teaching them to grow up independent of the ideals of others (peer pressure)
for both: no matter what, that parents will always love you and be there for you.

what is there not to love by being a parent. I love the relationship we have with our child and I love all of her attributes both the good and the bad. It is great pleasure to know that part of you will continue on through the years long after you are gone.

Presenting yourselves as a united front
Don't ague about the children in front of the children
Don't just tell them the right things to do....you should live the right things
Talk to them and let them know they can always tell you anything and even if you don't like what they do you'll never stop loving them and being there for them
Teach them to take care of themselves and to be responsible for the things they do.
Everything has consequences.
Give back to the community.
I could go on and on...

The awesomeness of bringing another soul to the earth to live, the responsibility of raising a person who will function well in society, the love you get from your kids when you've poured your soul into raising them

being understanding- listen to your kids problems.. relate, communicate etc
trust. make sure they can trust you and set up enough of a bond so that you can trust them
a sense of humor. crap happens in childhood and a parent who can laugh about some things is always good.
talking. kids like it when you pay attention and talk to them- but make sure that you arent rambling or getting annoying!
just love in general! <3
