I mean, most kids are not being exposed to the horrors of war and poverty because parents think it is too disturbing or it's not on TV.

Most kids are being exposed to the horrors of war everyday... If not on tv, then computers,....if not computers, then their friends.. and the list goes on.....The one's whom are protected.. Are lucky....Does not mean that they are superficial..or frivolous......The reason for that... is that many parents,, instead of spending time with their kids and teaching them about right and wrong,,buy their kids the Next generation Xbox.....

Kid says... Mommy or Daddy I want that!! and their response is (It's already been ordered... Arriving tomorrow via UPS...

i must creep along at 15 mph past a HIGH SCHOOL because apparently young adults do not know that darting out in front of cars is a bad idea. these young adults even have a crossing guard because they apparently can't be trusted cross a 2 lane road by themselves.

well, they best live in Smallville their entire lives because these young adults have been so overly protected that their survival skills are muted to the point where they wouldn't last a New York minute in a real city.

By over protection of kids you may deprive them of chance to develop themselves to face the realities of life. If we tell the kids not to do certain things ,it may have reverse impact. Better way will be to practice good habits along with children. It is essential that you must keep a close watch on the activities of the kids to save them from hazard of bad habits.

if you try to keep your kids away from all danger they grow to thinking that everbody owe them something.they think people should bow down to them.eveybody should experence some sort of horror to let them know that this not a perfect world no matter who or what their parents are.parent should teach ther children right and wrong and love them but know when to cut the string and hope that the good they taught. will last.

No, I don't think that's true at all. My mother "overproteted" me from violence and I now take it very seriously. I think it's often the children who are exposed to a LOT of it at a young age that take it lightly.

But, really, each child is unique.
