I really can't think of any, but there must be some. On the other hand, the people with good moral principles as set out in there religious writings have been responsible for the crusades, the holocaust, Fred Phelps, the attempted holding back of the small pox vaccine…etc. Atheists are told we’re evil godless creatures on a daily basis, so surely there must be some examples of this evil godless behaviour to not only match that of religious folk, but to be far more evil.

I should have said, Democratic Atheists. Deaths related to communisim weren't carried out in the name of Atheism unlike religious atrocities which were authorised by religious leaders

Well, there's Communism which has killed an estimated 100 million people since its inception. Communism is definitely atheistic.

That's about 99 million more people than the Spanish Inquisition and the Holocaust combined.

Edit:

I'm not calling atheists evil, BTW. They aren't any more or less evil than any other member of the population.

You wanted an example of how atheists have committed atrocities, and I provided one for you, that's all.

No, notwithstanding if that's purely yet yet another occasion. evaluate, Christianity has been used for many undesirable issues throughout the time of historic previous. Christianity has justified many styles of discrimination and remains getting used (Prop 8 in CA). Christian missionaries have irreparably broken countless cultures. Christianity has wrapped historic previous and blown up how persecuted it replace into or shifted the blame from the genuine motives (i.e. somewhat of understanding that it replace into political, it claims non secular persecution). Then too, there is the consistent Christian misinterpretation of info in case you may get them to confirm the info interior the 1st place. not purely is there little info for Biblical activities, there is a great deal of contradicting info and the little that exists does not point out that an miracles exceeded off. the only element that Christianity has going for that's very own journey and we pay attention comparable testimonials for countless self help platforms, different religions and products. the element right here is that many human beings inspect the finished image and in that gentle, Christianity, different religions, and gods are all blatantly guy made. Edit: that's common to state that "God has stopped issues", yet do you have any info to help that?

You are right. Hitler, Stalin and Mao did not commit those crimes in the name of atheism, but their atheistic beliefs and values told them it was okay. Their conscience never bothered them because they had silenced them.
And oh, you are wrong about Christians being responsible for the holocaust. Hitler was a godless man, a Nazi fascist who was influenced by Nietzsche, the grandfather of atheism to slaughter 6 million Jews. Read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Mein Kampf.
Thank you Wolfeblay for reminding me. Include Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot and Fidel Castro in the list.
Peace!

I don't think you are evil. I am a christian. We all sin and come short of the grace of God, that is why Jesus died. I know you don't believe that so I won't push it. The only problem that I have is when some atheists say we are pushing the issue but almost every question about God has an atheist on here trying to push it down our throats that God doesn't exist. But how dare us mention being saved. And I am not saying all of the atheists do it, but some. Just like not all Christians try to push it, but some do

Communists such as Stalin and Mao were responsible for the persecution of many Christians.

Atrocities are the result of evil people, not simply one's religion or lack thereof.

Careful with that, the theists will bring out Stalin and Mao. It's important to remember though that they were not freethinkers, they preached dogma just as much as any religious fundamentalist. At the heart of things, dogma is the problem; everyone should think for themselves.

The only major thing that atheists have done collectively that seems 'evil' is *gasp* not believe in God. That's okay, and if that makes you happy do it. I've no problem with that, and I'm a Christian.

Sigh. They keep telling me via email that the Crusades don't "count" because they were a while back.

I think the point is that if you can get away with something for a few hundred years, then you're off scot-free.

There might be a few atheist mass murderers, but I've certainly never heard of any.

I never said you were evil.

But, you do have to live with Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Min and Castro, all of whom are Atheists.

Every group has their dark side, and Atheists have them guys!

don't forget some will say Hitler... even though he was Catholic and the Nazi's used religion to rally people.

Then Pol Pot - the crazy guy who wanted to raise the ancient Buddhist civilization (Angkor Wat I think) in Cambodia by making his people slave away in the fields under the banner of communism. The guy was a freaky religion unto himself (like Kim Jong-Il).
