The citation is valid. It is very likely that you will receive a "cite correction letter" of some form in the mail that will indicate that the officer forgot to sign the citation and address the issue. The clerks at the agency where I work cross check the names and numbers on citations to ensure that they match up. When the information does not match, the clerks return citations to the issuing officer for these type of corrections and a correction letter is sent out to ammend the error. Our courts will not accept such a citation until the error is fixed.

That being said, and even if yu do not receive a correction letter, errors never invalidate a citation. The officer will likely appear in court if you request a hearing. He will idenfity you as the driver and that will be what the judge uses in coming to his decision. I have probably written 1000+ tickets in my career and have *on occasion* made a mistake. When someone points it out in court I apologize for the mistake and move on. I have never lost a ticket over a minor error.

Your best bet is to go to court and challenge the ticket and maybe no one will show up on the police side and the ticket will get thrown out.

Possibly, but the person who signed that ticket could probably be traced because most California Police vehicles have cameras in them that will have a nice visual to go with that signature! Chances are high that they will track you down eventually, so it's better to take it to court & see if you can have it dismissed for Officer Error. If that even still exists in this state!
