So my highly intelligent roomate spilled hand sanitzer in my cup of water and didn't notice; and neither did I. I proceded to take a gulp and swallow a mouth full of water. After examing the crime scene I noticed there was a path of small drops of the solution leading to my cup (as if it was dripping from his hand while he was applying it). The active ingredients in the sanitizer are: Carboner, Fragrance, Glycerin, Isopropyl, Alcohol, Isopropyl Mysristate, Propylene Glycol, Tocopheryl, Acetate, and of course water. The back of the sanitizer container says to contact poison control, but I was wondering if this is necessary (thinking that its just for liability reasons). Should I even worry since it was such a small amount, about the size of a dime. All answers are appreciated, except for lame ones like "you are going to die immediately."

It's just basically soap, and perfume, which you have diluted a great deal with water. Though it's not recommended as a drink additive, it isn't going to hurt you. If you are able to type on your keyboard and are not throwing up, chances are real good you will be just fine. Glycerin and propylene glycol are common food additives, so they won't do a thing to you. The alcohol and isoprpyl mrsristate are the germ killing elements, and though not considered safe to consume in quantity, in small amounts that you are talking won't affect you. If you didn't notice any change in taste you likely didn't get much at all anyway. So I'd relax, and threaten the roommate to apply the handcleaner elsewhere next time.

Nah I wouldn't worry. Imagine the people who think they're doing a good thing by using hand sanatizer before they eat and then eat the food with their damn hands!

It was diluted too in the water so it wasn't like you were taking it straight from the bottle.

If you do feel weird, sure why not call poison control, that's always fun, but rest easy eh? I doubt anything will happen.

Maybe you'll get super bugs in your stomach or something. Wouldn't that be exciting.

attempt calling poison administration or taking her to the vet. Poison administration could be a miles better selection considering that they are loose to call. If not, i could rigidity her to ingest assorted water. possibly use like certainly one of those droppers that are used to suck earwax out of infant's ears. Or an eyedropper. yet maximum actually call poison administration. The huge sort must be on the returned of the bottle. wish I helped, and that i wish your bunny is okay.

Nothing to worry about, unless you start feeling weird, then you should call poison control or see a doctor...Usually swallowing such small amounts has no affect...Btw, you're going to die immediately
