I think if you aren't strong enough in what you believe will happen to you, then there is doubt as to where you "go" when you die. I think it's hard for someone to truly believe that there is something after this life. With everything today saying that you only live once, once you die, that's it- it's hard to take what you believe and actually use it when the time comes. I've seen people die, some have been very peaceful, didn't fight when the time came. Others didn't want to go and fought until they went. I think if you really know what is waiting for you, and can let go of the things in life, then it is easier to believe what will happen to you.
My Grandpa passed away last month, a week before Christmas, and my mom, Grandma, aunt, and both uncles were there when he passed. They said that is was so peaceful in the room, and that my Grandpa told them that his mom had come to take him home. He wasn't afraid to die. He was very strong in his faith, and he was sure where he would go when he died.
I was there when a lady passed that was in a nursing home I worked in for a while. She didn't want to die, didn't want to go. She was over 90, so it wasn't like she was young. She just said that she didn't want her spirit just floating around and going nowhere. That room wasn't peaceful. Her family was really upset and kept asking her to stay and not to go. She fought it, but in the end she went. That room was full of chaos and noise and crying and just no peace at all. I think the difference in the two was the fact that one knew what was happening, the other didn't want to except what was happening.

I believe people who question their salvation is very afraid...
fear of the unknown..
I am not afraid to die, I know where I am going and as the Bible says, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"... So I know when I take my last breath on earth, my next one I will be standing right in front of my Savior....

It's fear of the unknown....
Personally, I'm not afraid of being dead, it's the potential pain associated with dieing that I fear.
Another way to put it- I'm not afraid of the other side of the door, I'm afraid of the doorway.

Because, they are still not for sure, and it is unknown. All they know is this life. Even catholics, are not sure of where they will ultimately end up, which is so sad. You CAN know, though. I am not so afraid, but faced up with it, yes, it would be scary to a degree, absolutely. It is human.

Not anyone but Jesus has been there and back, you shed your flesh and join a gigantic pulse of light. It is a transition that scares even the most faithful. I am afraid of it and so is everyone i know.
