my dad decorates cakes....he has done a lot of barbie cakes...the way he does it is he buys a barbie for the child as a bday present he then usens a bundt pan for the dress...wrap the barbie arm pits down with plastic wrap and secure the barbie in the middle of the bundt pan (the hole) with icing...then decorate the cake as a dress and since the barbie is protected with the wrap you can decorate the top of her dress right on her....it makes the cutest cakes....good luck

Depending where you live, you might be able to rent the mould!! Call your local craft store for places where. Much cheaper than buying but you still get the cake you want. Better yet, blow up a pic from a Barbie coloring book so that it would fit on a 9 x 13 cake, trace it, cut it out and follow the pic to ice it. That's what I do and it works like a charm. I hope that helps!!

I cattier alot of B-day party's and make barbie cakes using everything else besides a mold. I use metal bowls, gravy bowls etc.., anything that is oven safe and has the shape. Depending on the size of cake and age of the child.

When I bake cakes in a springform pan, I usually line the bottom with parchment and then butter and dust the parchment with flour. The extra layer of parchment might prevent leaking. So, if taking it back is not an option, try the above. It also prevents sticking, so its a good idea anyway.
