Agricultural crops and forests are the same in that we are trying to produce the best and most dominant species of trees or crops.

Where they are different is that most crops only a few months and then can be harvested. However, Forests are very different in this way, the normal rotation for forests are very different and many issues affect the rotational age of our forests like:climate, elevation, soil types, tree species, species/vegetation competition. .

For example: here in Canada the Northern climates a normal rotational age for most confier stands (spruce, balsam, Douglas fir, cedar, hemlock) are normally 100 years old before we could cut the second growth forest. Some species like lodgepole/Jack pine and white pine may only be 70 to 80 years old. The decidious stands like Aspen may only be 35 to 45 years old.
However, areas like New Zealand the rotational age of some of there conifer stands are only 50 to 60 years rotation.

Once the trees are logged, forest companies are liable to have trees planted (seedlings or sometimes allow seeding) within the first year after harvesting and have a set date to met the required stocking and free growing standards or can be subject to fines.

Today there is actually more forested land & timber here in Canada then there was 100 or 200 years ago. We will not have any issues in regards to running out of wood with all the forestry regulations and acts as well as Professional foresters calculating the AAC (annual allowable cut) for each province or state to ensure we will have forest for generations to enjoy.

I hate to say it sometimes Greenpeace and other enviromental groups are showing and informing the public incorrectly on forestry issues today. As most forest industry companies here in North America are getting certified under CSA, SFI, ISO and audited by third parties to ensure they are practicing sustainable forestry as well as compliant on forest regulations and acts to ensure environmental impacts due to forestry practices are kept to a miniumum.

I think you meant crops. Forests are the main source of oxygen on our planet .... we can't breathe so well without them.

If we replace forests with new trees when we cut them down for lumber, then we have a 'crap' or crop.

Recycle because this is a small planet and we all live on it. Take care of it. It's ours, and living is amazing !
