I'm going to go with my gut instinct and assume you're taking those for non-medical reasons (i.e. you're taking them because you want to lose weight). I'll say it won't mess up your bowels, although you could end up with constipation. It's different for everyone.

Well, I don't know that it would "mess up" your bowels, but it will certainly upset the system and set you up to become rebound constipated again. Most laxatives are very harsh on the system, causing diarrhea as a means to relieve the problem. It takes a good two or three days after that stops for the system to even have enough in it to need to empty, and the body has to compensate for the bacteria and water you lost in the process. So you think you are constipated, and get in a big rush to "fix" things, and all you end up doing is making matters worse. Fix your diet. Increase your intact of veggies and whole fruits, whole grains, salads, and liquids (except alcohol- which dehydrates the body). If there is a particular food that encourages movement, eat some of that. For most people this is something like prunes, raisins, corn or beans. You can add a stool softener to help the comfort level, but you really should let the body work as it was supposed to. If you eat properly and take the time to go when you need to, it will. Repeatedly taking laxatives will eventually make you dependant on them and will set you up for colon problems you don't really want. Rather than take a laxative this soon, change your eating habits and drink liquids, add a stool softener and wait it out.

No, it only becomes a problem when you use them for days or weeks at a time. Stool softeners are more gentle on the stomach, they cause more fluid to be brought into the bowels to soften the stool while most laxatives cause instestinal cramping which produces a bowel movement. And I'll add this caffeine, meat, cheese, and chocolate are frequuent causes of constipation.

From one to another, I'm not use to aswering this kind question. But if you really have a constipation problem, go to your local health food store or pharmacy and get straight vitamin "C" powder. But everthing should be in moderation. Vitamin "C" is the best laxative there is. But, I repeat "everything in moderation"". Remeber, if one thing or another does not work within a couple of days, Get to your doctor!

You should be ok if you've used them twice in two weeks. If you are having problems, you should go to the health food store and tell them you would like to do a colon cleanse. They can sell you some herbs that will clean your system out and help you get regular again. That's the best and healthiest thing to do.
