Hopefully one is on the way soon. It was not designed to protect foreigners. It was written just 20 years after the U.S./Mexican war and there was still resent towards Mexico at the time. The writers of the amendment would have not wanted the Amendment to be abused by illegal aliens from Mexico. If they had known of the future problems they would have closed the loophole.
Even the Supreme Court has said anchor babies should not be citizens. The Supreme Court has said to qualify a child for citizenship, the parents must be 'completely subject' to the jurisdiction of the United States and must have “direct and immediate” allegiance to the United States. That statement makes children of illegal aliens not citizens.
"Supreme Court: "The evident meaning of these last words is, not merely subject in some respect or degree to the jurisdiction of the United States, but completely subject to their political jurisdiction, and owing them direct and immediate allegiance. And the words relate to the time of birth in the one case, as they do to the time of naturalization in the other. Persons not thus subject to the jurisdiction of the United States at the time of birth cannot become so afterwards, except by being naturalized, either individually, as by proceedings under the naturalization acts; or collectively, as by the force of a treaty by which foreign territory is acquired"

It would require an amendment to the U.S. constitution; the fourteenth amendment to the constitution presently says:
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
The U.S. citizenship status of children born in the United States to non-citizen parents has been generally accepted as settled law since 1898, when the Supreme Court held in U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark that almost all such children were entitled to citizenship by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.

If the parents are here illegally I do not think the children should be granted automatic citizenship. It's an insult to all the immigrants who, after many years and much sacrifice, have followed the correct procedures to become legal citizens.

I don't know but whatever it is, we better start pushing Congress to put it thru ASAP.
By the way, illegals can't vote so, unless legal immigrants agree with them, they have no say or shouldn't. Of course, they can (and are) always steal someone elses identy.
All of this is why ( or at least one reason) we have to go thru this extreme security stuff. This is another thing the illegals are doing to us America. US citizens, stand up and fight it. Voting is the best way. Let your Rep. or Senator know (strongly) what you think. You can do this by internet.
NO, NO, NO, You don't get it. My mother did not come here 8 1/2 mos. pregnant illegally and give birth to me. That is an anchor baby. Got it????

There is none that I know of. They would have to change the constitution to pull that off, according to my friends in the San Diego Minutemen. Standing out in the desert with binoculars and a radio, we all do our best to hang on to what is becomming more fragile nation. I married a South Korean in 1976. It was 1986 before her sister could even come VISIT. She did legally and legally went home, too. It took her another five to legally emegrate. Want a scare? Look up that site that want to unite Canada, the US and Mexico into one country! Jeez! I want my country back! Only thing I can figure is that the govt is worried about competition with China or the EU. Maybe they think we need to expand our slave labor base. But as far as ahchor babies go, as I wrote in the Vista North County Times, it will take a constutional amendment. Who's your rep? Find out and write him! Get your friends to do it, too. You sound motivated enough.

Well, the Supreme Court hasn't actually ever ruled that children of ILLEGAL immigrants are citizens, but they are treated as if they are.
So, the amendment would be a constitutional amendment clarifying that only children of legal permenant residents or US Citizens became citizens by being born here.

A true understanding of the 14th amendment, given it's place in history pertaining to the descendants of black slaves is essential, it has been poorly interpreted out of context. Laws are supposed to be derived from common sense, not misinterpreted to allow abuse at the jeopardy of it's legal citizens.

You realize that without the principals from the "Anchor Law" you wouldn't be a citizen... I assume you were born here and are a citizen of course.
The only people who are true Americans are Native Americans. Most of us are citizens because of the principals from the Anchor Law.
