because he only suffered for a few hours when they had a disease that forced them to suffer for years?

This is a hard question for you to answer because in this
person's mind--the LENGTH OF TIME a person suffers,
makes the pain greater than a shorter suffering. This person
is dealing with a lot of anger and depression. And he is
probably angry at God (Jesus) for letting this happen to him

I can only tell you what I would do, but then I put Jesus on the
spot many times. I would ask the person if I could come pray for his suffering to be removed or at least lessened. If it is sickness I would look up all the scriptures about Jesus
healing anyone and I would go and read it to this person.
I would go on a 1 or 2 day fast for this person's healing and
then go and earnestly pray outloud in front of this person.
I would petition the Lord most earnestly for this person's
healing. Do not consider the unbelief that is in this person's
heart, but consider the faith that is in your heart. Are you
a born again and baptized Christian? If not, you should send someone who is--like your Pastor.

First, I would say ... EVERYONE SUFFERS -- it is part of the human condition. Not only physical sufferering, but mental, spiritual, emotional. Remember when you were really little and time passed soooo slowly? It felt like first grade would never end. All those bumps and bruises seemed like such a big deal. As a MAN, Jesus suffered. 40 days and nights he was tempted in the desert. He was extremely intelligent (like GOD), could read people's minds and heal people -- he suffered just putting up with all the dummies and people that wanted a piece of him. Not only that, HE KNEW what was going to happen to him!

Having read the Bible, and by faith, I say Jesus DOES KNOW how much your friend is suffering. Unfortunately, He isn't going to pick up the phone and call your friend to express his sympathy and empathy. However, faith comes by hearing the word. The word is in the Bible and you hear it when you read it. You might try looking up the Gospel According to John (4th book, New Testament) and see if you can share it with your friend.

Isn't it also important that your friend knows that YOU know they are suffering? You ARE able to pick up the phone ....not that you haven't done that ... This is an opportunity for Jesus/God to work through you. It is a LIVING Bible and it lives in our hearts, minds and lives.

Here's another way to look at it: If you accept that Jesus was God incarnate, and God rules/is the Universe and God is all-knowing and the Universe knows what is in the Universe,
then it follows that Jesus Does Know how much your friend is suffering.

Furthermore, if you accept Jesus, the Bible says he sends the Holy Spirit to comfort you. Suffering is part of life, and so is death. Jesus was a man who experienced it, and did it with grace and dignity. You also have the hope of resurrection because He was resurrected. Best wishes to you and your friend as you go through this difficult time.

I thank the man has a good point. Jesus was God he could quit suffering anytime he liked if the pain got intense. Do we know that he even suffered at all during the ordeal. He was after all God. He may have just put on a good act of suffering and never felt a thing. OO

Jesus does know the suffering. He died for it and He paid the price for sin, sickness, disease, and poverty. People don't have to suffer but some choose to.

Anyone who has ever suffered, have they ever sweat blood like Jesus. who is anyone to say how much Jesus suffered. No man could have handled it. And I am no weasle

A few hours? After leaving His Father's side to come here to a sin-filled world, I'd said Jesus suffered better than 30 years.

I would say they are two completely different types of suffering. Maybe they are suffering more. I don't think Jesus suffered more than any other person in history.

Jesus knows how much your friend is suffering because Jesus sees every bit of suffering that each of us goes through in His world. When Jesus sees us in pain it also hurts Him because he loves us and like with us, when people we love are hurting we also hurt.

Well, I would say this. Jesus suffered more than you because he carried the pain and destruction of sin on the cross. Nobody, not even Jesus in his frail human form, could sustain that type of suffering and pain for more than a few days. He felt every pain and misery that could be felt in human existence, so he understands how you hurt. When he was on the cross, he was thinking of him/her and knew his/her pain.

He got off pretty easy, huh? Suffer a few hours of pain, shed a little blood, sleep it off a couple of days in the grave, then float away back to heaven to live forever in bliss. Please give the 10 points to whoever comes up with the most creative excuse as to why Jesus' "suffering" was so much worse than, say, a Jew who starved to death in Auschwitz.

As one who suffers daily from 3 crippling, painful diseases, I can tell you this with all sincerety...I'd rather be crucified. It would have been over quite a bit more quickly. I'm only 42, I've got a good 20 years or more of this to endure, and it will only get worse. What is the purpose of this? Why must anyone suffer horrendously? Jesus knows nothing of the suffering we humans endure.
