I'm looking to do a couple shots to help with my insomnia, can anyone suggest any particularly sleepy 40% alcoholic drinks? All other factors about the drink are unimportant, but I'd like to keep it in the lower price range, say $20-35 bucks a bottle.

I don't know if any drink will make you more tired than another.
Try some Cognac or another type of "sipping spirit" the relaxed method of drinking may be conducive to sleep, especially combined with the alcohol. Try drinking it in a dark room with some light music.

Exercise is a good healthy idea but if you don't exert yourself enough or do it too close to the time you'd like to fall asleep you may wind up battling adrenaline in your quest for some shut-eye.

Really I'd look into a prescription, or some good marijuana, it's healthier than the alcohol, especially if you had some brownies and warm milk.

As much as I love mixed drinks, I'd say that alcohol is not the answer (don't tell my wife you heard me say that...I'll lose many excuses).
Try getting exercise 4-6 hours before bedtime, about 30-40 minutes worth. This will peak your body, and after a good shower and dinner, your body will want to rest. Rest, without any stimulants, will happen naturally.
But if that doesn't work, try a medium-priced gin (20-25 dollars) and cranberry juice. Try a 4:1 ratio, with a few ice cubes.

The % of ETOH in any given drink should give you the same effect. Finding the drink that relaxes you the most might depend on the other ingredients used in the distilling process. So your best bet might be to experiment for a while with spirits that you think you might like.
