a whole bunch of people now are spending so much time looking around for subliminal messages, but really, why would someone try to hide a subliminal message in a song? do we self-conciously fall into those messages when we listen to the songs? i dont get it

it's subconsciously ;)
and yes, even if you dont' know it, a part of you may hear underlying words and it can change your subconsciousness without your even knowing it. it's like the beer commercials that put pictures of genitals in the ice cubes as the beer pours in. it's all subconscious... beware what you listen to.... jk
i don't know exactly how much it affects people, but you could probably look it up!

There are subliminal messages everywhere. It is a major part of advertising and companies pay big money for the latest information on how to reach your subconscious mind. This has been going on for many, many years and getting more sophisticated.
