Phone (or see, if possible) a good friend or relative--preferably one who can make me laugh. Sometimes just getting interested in a movie or TV show will help--preferably comedies--laughter is the best medicine. I spend a lot of time talking to and playing with my cat, particularly if it happens when everybody is at work or school. Walking and getting fresh air can help sometimes, as can exercise, meditation and certain vitamins. Be sure to drink plenty of water.
It's best not to be alone when you feel very sad, it is good that you are getting outdoors and spending time with your pets. You can check out aromatherapy candles, incense, air fresheners, etc.--ones that say revitalizing, or something similar.
Feel better, I do know what you're going through, and it is not easy.

well if i have someting to feel depressed about it (liek the loss of friend of family member) I allow myself to grieve..if its not that I FORCE myself to get out of the house and do something fun with friends.. if its hanging out with your dogs, try going to a dog park..the most importent thing is to be around other people no matter how much you dont want to....... stay away from sugars and overeating due to sugar highs and lows ( a great book for you is "sugar blues" which talks about depression and diet as well as coping skills

I drink beer...juss kidding. I make sure im around people that i love or i have to listen to really heavy metal idk y but it helps me feel better....Like now im sad b-cus my boyfriends gone away for at least 8 months and he hasnt called me in almost 3 weeks and im not sure whats up with us now.. we were going out 4 years..I guess i just do my best to block all memories i have with him so that i will forget about him easier. It sometimes helps..but yeah. i just block memories out of my head so im not so sad and i just try be around people i love and i guess thats about it. Sometimes too though i just let myself cry b0cus it feels good to just let it all out..and i just remember that there will be better days and if he forgets about me than theres other men out there..o well thats lyfe..sometimes its shyttee ..i hope he calls soon though i love that guy so damn much! ..

My pets have been the biggest resource but I also take hot bubble baths or go to the movies.
