what if you need something from them so that you cannot ignore their rudeness?

It depends on the situation. If the rude person is someone with whom you probably will never come in contact again, I would just ignore him or her. If the rude person is persistent and also someone you have to deal with regularly, I would confront that individual in a confident, yet non-threatening way. If that doesn't work, you can either lash back at that person, ignore him/her and hope he/she treats you better, or file a complaint about his/her behavior.

This depends on the situation. Normally I would think you could move on. So I would say just ignore them, because being rude back is certainly not justified. You would only be stepping down to their level.

As for if you could not get away from this person. You should probably still try to put up with it. And once you hit that point where you cannot stand them. Just simply ask them why they are so rude. They might be surprised that that is how they are coming off.

Just a few thoughts...

Ignore them. If you counter and get into conflict, you give them an opportunity to inflict more pain by their rudeness. Rudeness is a disease. You are not a doctor to prescribe a medicine nor a punching bag for their therapy. Let them search their own doctor or their own gymnazium. As for yourself ignore them. Don't react at all, even if the words are hateful and seething. By the next instance they would have run out of words.

The best way is to ignore them but the most rewarding way is to embarress them. When someone is being rude to a librarian for instance stand behind them and talk about them where they can hear it. Say things like "some people are starving for attention" or "looks ugly and acts ugly too" that should help cure them of their rudeness. Oh and it helps to be a big guy like me when you say those things lol

Dont take anything personally. Nothing anyone does is because of you. What others do and say is a projection of their own reality. When others are rude, they are not being their best and you want to be immune to their actions or words. Otherwise, they bring you down. Ignore them and go about your day with a smile on your face!

Ask too help them, no need to make the situation worse. Trust me I worked in block buster I know how ignorant people can get. When you try to help someone who is being an asshole it puts them off guard because they expect you to be so calm and help full it makes them look like an ***. And they complain the whole way home, that makes me laugh
