My 12 week year old puppy has been having watery diarrhea constantly, it's dark brown and I checked for blood in his stools and I did see some red matter, but could it have possibly been something he ate? He has water and food but I am really concerned. Please I can't get to a vet or pay what a vet costs. Any advice.

We got him from a breeder and he had his first round of shots whatever shots that includes. I've already spent over 500 on medical expenses...

This could be a lot of things. Parvo is the first that comes to mind. Has this pup been vaccinated? Has this pup been vaccinated with a high titer vaccine? The pup could also have giardia, coccidia or both. Take it to the vet for treatment. I tell people all the time if they don't have the money to buy a pup, then how are they going to afford taking a dog to a vet. You need to go to the vet.

You should at least call and talk to a vet over the phone. That is the only way you can recieve correct information about the situation and possible at home remedies to solve it.

You really do need to take the puppy to the vet just to make sure there is nothing wrong. You should also save a sample of the stool and bring that with you. It's better to be safe than sorry.

At 12 weeks the puppy does not have a strong enough immune system as to an older dog to fight off infections, in fact the puppy is still building an immune system. Good Luck.

It is best to have him checked by a vet. You said you have spent over $500 for vet expenses. Has he been sick since you have had him? You said that he is 12 week year old. I think you mean he is 12 weeks old? He should have had 2 or 3 shots by now, not just one.

You definitely need to call a vet. It could be many different things. Could be worms .. could be anything. Whoever purchased the dog should have set aside some money for Vet costs .. as shots and physical check-ups are needed as much for dogs/puppies as food and water are. You will eventually need to bring that puppy into a Vet .. and I wouldn't put it off very long. Good Luck !

Get that dog to a vet ASAP. If you cannot afford to do so, then you either need to finance the visit, return the dog to the breeder, or suck it up and foot the bill. Buying a dog means a commitment to fulfilling its needs - it costs money! While puppies having diarrhea is not uncommon, constant diarrhea is dangerous for a multitude of reasons. You puppy needs supportive hydration and a medical solution to his condition. The reason for the diarrhea could be anything - food, worms, disease, ingestion of poisons, etc. No one on this board is a medical expert - please contact a professional.

It could be any number of things, all of which at his age, could be very serious. Could be parvovirus. With constant diarrhea a dog can get dehydrated very fast. A dehydrated dog will die!

I'm sorry that you did not think about the great responsibility of pet ownership before taking this animal into your home. That puppy, just like a human baby is totally dependent on you for it's health and well being.

If you won't take the puppy to a vet, you should probably just take the little guy to the pound. If he is too far gone, they can put him to sleep and keep him from suffering any longer. If perhaps you haven't waited too long, the dog can be treated and recover and hopefully be adopted out to a mature, responsible owner.

I apologize for being harsh, but abuse of animals through ignorant behavior just isn't acceptable!

This is why I tell people to never buy from a breeder. *sigh* Call the breeder, and tell her/him that the dog is sick. Explain the symptoms, and see what the breeder has to say. The breeder should be able to help. Otherwise, I suggest you get CareCredit to help pay for his vet costs. The Animal Hospital Association also offers grants to pay for emergency medical expenses.

Might be the food. My dog had the same problem and it turned out the food company changed an ingredient in the product. The company said that pumpkin in the food would help. You may want to try it.
