Let me give you some links because I am not a scientist to explain it with any technical accuracy. I can say from being zapped with it that it hurts like hell and I never want to do it again. Hope these help.
I found another video that is a must see, it's a bad *** Marine and he is tough. The only problem is this guy begs like a baby to shut that Taser off when it hits him. This guy is one bad dude but so is that Taser.

It is bascially like an electric fence. It shocks you, causing partial paralysis, and loss of the ability control body parts. It is a high voltage weapon, that incapacitates the person who is hit with it. It doesn't do any harm, because there are no amps running through it at all.

I don't know what it feels like. The only law enforcement officers that have to go through the training are the ones who are issued the device. I'm in no hurry to find out. It looks painful to me though.

Your muscles are run (more or less) by electrical impulses. A taser overloads them so they all clench up at once. I haven't been tased myself, but I understand it hurts. Something like a big charlie horse.

Our agency started using them a few years ago. We each had to get hit with it and "ride the lightning" to get certified to use them.
All I can tell you is that it was the worse five seconds of my life. You truly think that you are going to die. It is horrible.

Oh, and it shoots 2 barbed prongs 21 feet, they stick in you and a 50,000 volt currant passes between the prongs and disrupts and totally warps your nervous system.

Its hell in a hand held devise. Yikes.

It's 50,000 volts from a battery in the hand unit. Your muscles sieze up and feel like they're burning.
