Remember your cockatiel needs daily attention, he will bond to one human and TOLERATE others at best. The more time you spend with him the friendlier he will be with you. Birds are not like dogs and cats, they form very special relationships with their human friends. If they have a bird mate they sometimes won't even tolerate humans...

If you work late, take a weekend away, go out 'til odd hours your bird will feel ignored (like a spouse or roommate, not like a dog). Birds can die from lack of attention.

Start handling your bird every day, several times a day if at all possible. Let him spend time out of the cage just 'hanging out' with you. (Make sure his wings have been clipped). Talk to him whenever you are near the cage - treat him like a person (except you are always in charge - don't let him bully or bite you!).

So - talk, talk, talk and handle and hang out. Be patient, he has had two years to learn to be distant.

Hope this helps!

Jen

I have owned two different cockatiels, completely different personalities. The first was much friendlier. Try to handle and give as much attention as possible, he may come around.

It's simple. It's not rocket science that is for sure.
What's the answer?
****SPEND TIME WITH YOUR BIRD****
It's really that simple. Cockatiels are awesome birds and extremely easy to tame. the love human contact. If you have a 2 yr old cockatiel that still isn't tame the reason is because you don't spend enough time with it. Your tiel should be out of it's cage and hanging out with you at least 2 hours per day. yep, I know. It's a bunch. But, thats what these lovable birds need. My advice to you is to clip your birds wings and spend the next week hanging out with it every day. When he bites you don't pull away or talk loud. don't react. Just continue to talk sweet to it. give it tons of scritches. and I mean lots of scritches. try to imitate his happy sounds. I always make a sound like tsk tsk tsk...my tiel loves it. she'll grind her beak trying to copy me when I do this. I had a disadvantage when i purchased my tiel. I purchased her from a pet store and she was not hand fed. she was parent raised. She hissed and bit me. I just continued to try and give her scritches. she finally started to enjoy it. It took me a total of 2 days to completely tame her. Now she is one of the most tame birds. people are amazed. I take her everywhere with me. EVERYWHERE. People will come ulp and ask how I got her so tame. she wouldn't dream of leaving my shoulder. the answer is lots of time. she spends most of her day on my shoulder. I work 6 hours. I wake up at 5 am. get ready for work and then love on her for an hour before I go to work. when I get home I immediately take her out. she spends her time on my shoulder or my husbands shoulder. she eats from our plates and gets lots of loving. she is the sweetest bird ever. I just got another tiel the other day that is a year old. He was handfand but not handled after his owners purchased him. he was extremely mean...3 days ago. Now he is so sweet and tame. You just have to hang out with your tiel and enjoy it. I love my babies :)

they will take their time and so do you have to give him time. at this stage he is an adolescent and will do what ever.have treats in your hand and speak kindly have him step up to get the treat make kukuku noises show him you want the interaction . at some point they love this and want more.they will do whatever it takes to get that treat, the attention and that love! if he gets nippy just put him back to his cage don't say a word because even bad reactions from us, is attention for them.so if he doesn't get love he will try the nippy thing. GOOD LUCK

They really have little personalities of their own, so maybe he's just going to be a bit of a grouch? When you have visitors encourage him out of his cage and even to sit on their shoulders occasionally. If he gets angry, he's obviously not comfortable and don't push him to do it. Try again after a while and maybe start with people just talking to him and offering him seeds. It's important not to force them into anything, as they will just get more angry and scared.

You really can't because a bird that breed only is nice to one person and it will only be friends with you. Its not imposable for that to happen though.
