I use AVG only because my friends recommend it and haven't had a virus problem so i tried it and have had it for a while with no probs. But u should be concentrated on stopping viruses from getting to your comp in the first place try these programs along with avg to give yourself a pretty good arsenal against viruses/spyware
oh ya and all of these are FREE!!!!!!!!!!!
SpywareBlaster
Zonealarm Firewall
Ad-Aware SE Personal

This is the best thing to do. Forget all those Norton/ McAfee ... Antivirus programs, All they do is put a load on your computer and slow it down considerably and they do miss a lot of virus and adware and malware anyway's.
Take down this FREE website-- It is constantly updated and I consider the best overall protector for your computer,
http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/
If you have a serious download habit, then by all means go purchase a virus protector, if your only a music downloader and basic web surfer, then all you need is this.
Use it once a month to clean out adware and malware and if by slim chance any virus's you may catch.

Virus, spyware and malware are the programs which will cause harm to your system in different levels. Virus means it may delete the important folders in your computer, malware may crash your system spyware may be with illegal sites. For internet security we need to install the firewall sepearatly and load a anti virus software. Using spyware, malware depends on your usage of the system. In my considerence AVG is serving good which have daily updates and which will take less space. All the best

I see the AVG fanboys and cheerleaders are out in full force again here on Yahoo Answers!
AVG by Grisoft is definitely NOT "The Best". Unfortunately one of the things it is not the best at, is doing what is is supposed to do, detecting viruses!
In short, AVG is crap!
In test,
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
after test,
http://www.av-comparatives.org/
after test,
http://antivirus.about.com/od/antivirussoftwarereviews/gr/avgfree.htm
after test ,
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=891307&postcount=1,
after test,
http://www.pcworld.com/article/124475-1/article.html ,
etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam.
AVG has proven itself to be a mediocre performer at best. Absolutely crappy at worst. Missing almost 20%, when trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.
AVG = Average, at best!
There are much better free alternatives, such as Avast, Active Virus Shield, and Avria Anti-Vir.
I like best the AOL Active Virus Shield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)
And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

The best one that I found in the av-co-opertives website is Avira Antivir, Eset, and Kaspersky rating the higest antivirus programs. Only thing is they tested an older version of AVG so that kind of make it unfair in my opinion, since, 7.5 is definatly improved over 7.1

Diversity is good for all of us. If you review the RATINGS, you will see that AVG is good. While I use Norton Anti-virus, others use other solutions. You see, if my anti-virus MISSES a virus, but yours catches it, all of us are safer. But if we all used the same solution, then the virus would infect us ALL.
Keep up the good work.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

It doesn't matter which you think is better. Best thing is to have 3 or 4 anti-virus/spyware programs. Get Windows defender, and adaware SE too.

That's just the thing, everyone will have a different opinion. You've got to decide for yourself what is best for YOU. What is best for you may not be the best for someone else, although they will try to convince you otherwise.
