You'll never be able to have a successful family life if you go special ops. You will never be at home and that's no way to raise a family. If you'd like to go to college and become and officer, then I would suggest looking into ROTC programs. They pay for your school, then you pay them back by giving them 6 years of your life in the military.

You seem to have a lot on your plate, Tyrone! I'm thinking a lot of it is fantasy land. There's an old addage: "you must crawl before you can walk." What this means is take one at a time, to see if you really like it or can handle it. The easiest is to enlist in the Marines, and if you qualify as an expert rifleman, you can put in your request for sniper school.

With all these militaristic ambitions you have on your plate, I would suggest you wait to start a family. Rambo's don't make good dads. Special ops, Delta Force, OCS, college may have to wait too. The first two don't draw their candidates from recruit training, they need people who have proven themselves and have time in grade. To be a Marine officer you will need a college degree. This you can get this by going back to school following your separation from active duty. If you still want OCS, then you go back in as an officer candidate.

While it has been a long time since I was in the armed services, I feel I have a better perspective to answer your question. As one of your responders has already pointed out, it IS better to be an officer than to be an enlistee. Go on to college, and join the ROTC. Either that, or get an appointment to one of the academies, such as West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, or even the Coast Guard. It is going to be tough to get a college degree while in the service as an enlistee. However, it is possible, and I know of people who have done it. The lure of going out with the guys to chase the girls, and to party is a strong allurement. It will be tough to say no, and go after a degree. You will also be rotated in and out of war zones as the military needs you.
If you really want to be in the forefront of military action, join the Air Force, and follow the training route I am about to lay out. It's TOUGH, the wash out rate is very high. It will take you at least 2 to 2 1/2 years to complete it, but if you really want it, and can endure to the very end, it is a thrilling career, and a very dangerous career. The rewards are great, the money makes some senior officers envious, but it does have it's own rewards. If you decide to go this course, you must have 20-20 vision, at least the last I heard you did. You really need to be in excellent physical strength. By that, can you carry a 120 pound pack for 15 miles. Can you run, flat out with 2- 5 gallon cans of water, with at least a 50 pound pack. Can you run 10 miles. Can you do 30 chin ups on a slow 4 point count, 30 pushups in a similar 4 point count. If so, you might just make it. The course to follow is to become an aircraft controller. That is the first step. From there you volunteer to be a combat controller. That will take you to Ft. Benning for paratrooper school. From there you go to Pope AFB for combat controller apprentice school. The things I have already named you will do there, and more. I spent 2 years working around them. I watched the best, or thought they were, fail miserably, and I watched those with the heart to make it do so against all odds against them. From there you go to Florida for scuba assault training, a school very similar to the Navy SEALS, and other training until you achieve what is known as a 5 level, training level. This means that you are a journeyman, and can be assigned to a regular unit. There is a book about the special forces and their history. In it, you will find pictures of men that I got to know. Everyone of your trainers, at least at Pope AFB has been there, done that, for everything you will go through. If you want an excellent career, then go after being an Air Force Combat Controller. They are the first in, and the last out in any situation where they are needed. Compared to them, the Marines are pansies.

Don't go enlisted and if you go special ops don't make plans on having a family.Special ops isn't something you just show up and do.You can get a special forces contract through your recruiter, but you better be damn well squared away.

JOINING THE ARMED FORCE IS VERY BRAVE AND SELF COMMITTING. YOU WILL GET THE THINGS YOU STRIVE FOR IN LIFE IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK HARD FOR IT. YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK DEEPLY INTO THE LIFESTYLE OF THE ARMED FORCES BEFORE JOINING. I KNOW MANY WHO HAVE A LOVED IT AND MANY WHO HAVE HATED IT. IT IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LIFESTYLE AND IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS. THANK YOU...
