Satanism breaks into Modern/Atheistic and Traditional/Theistic. Modern Satanism, at least in the sense of LaVeyan Satanism, (one of the most or probably the most well known denomination of Modern Satanism), does have a strong emphasis of what you could call, "self worship" whereas the Traditional Satanists, do worship Satan and/or Lucifer as a literal being. The exact understanding of the nature of Satan and/or Lucifer however, varies based on the respective Traditional Satanist.

Also, there is another belief system commonly associated with Satanists call Luciferianism. Though the break down of Luciferianism is similar to Satanism, in the sense of two major branches, Atheistic and Theistic, Luciferians tend to have different philosophical and theological views than most Satanists. Also, most Luciferians view Satan and Lucifer as distinctly different entities, concepts, etc, whereas some Satanists do not.

So, basically atheistic Satanists and Luciferians are the same, with just the Luciferians viewing Satan and Lucifer as different. I hope this helped.

As far as I know, all Luciferians are Theists of some kind, they believe in the whole God/Devil mythos, just as a Christian does, but they hate the biblical god and worship Satan/Lucifer/Set as the God of Wisdom and the liberator of mankind. The Luciferian guy I know is a huge fan of the Grimorium Verum, and more specifically, The Rite of Lucifuge. Satanists of an Atheistic persuasion wouldn't put that much credence in the Verum, as they don't believe in an actual devil that they could make a pact with.

That’s a tough question because Atheistic Satanists are not a homogeneous population. They range from drug addicted dysfunctional teenagers, to serious occultists, to academic skeptics like myself.

As far as Luciferians go it is not a group I’ve studied. So I will yield to others as an authority.

I became a Satanist some 20 odd years ago because I found that I resonated with much of the LaVeyan philosophy. My practices have evolved over time and I’ve moved away from the ritualistic aspects.

Lucifer was not equated with Satan until the AD 4th century and it appears that the initial religions based on lucifer were just based on this highest of angels being a light bearer and so on. From my understanding Satanists, in contrast, don't actually believe in Satan... i.e. they use "satan" simply as a symbol. to accept that satan is real is to also accept that christianity is real. they generally beleive that none of them are real and satan represents the part of the human nature that says "GO, do it, whatever makes you feel good..." there are also a lot of rituals and incantations and what not that are wrapped around sex. the idea is to reject christianity (mostly catholicism, as that is what their rituals mostly emulate). Both ideologies here (Luciferianism, and Satanism) seem to have a fundamental commonality in that they both like the idea of doing what it is that you want.

Luciferians believe that Lucifer's expulsion from heaven was a mistake--they do not believe that Lucifer is either evil nor the same as Satan.

It's possible to be an atheistic Satanist, but not an atheistic Luciferian.

I wouldn't call either one "athiestic" sense both have mysticism in them. Ayn Rand's followers would be athiests.

There's a group of Luciferians around Tampa, and they seem to be your garden variety LaVeyian Satanist, i.e., racist, neonazi, facinatied with serial killers, in and out of jail, abusers of drugs and alcohol, etc.,

Anyone who wants to be taken seriously in life should forget about it.

No atheist I know of believes in Satan/Lucifer because he is an imaginary being just like God. That is the point of being an atheist--it means having no belief in ANY gods, good or evil. I'm sure there are people who don't believe in God, but do believe in Satan; or they believe in both but they worship only Satan. Either way, they would be plain ol' Satanists. Dunno why they'd want to add "atheistic" to the title. If you're really curious, you'd get more info from Google or Wikipedia.

Atheistic Satanism???
That sounds like an oxymoron......You see Atheists don't believe in gods, devils, gnomes, goblins or any other man-made mythological creatures.
Also, Atheists don't perform "rituals". Anyone who calls themself an atheist, yet believs in a "satan" or performs rituals, has no idea what the term "atheist" actually means.

Atheistic Satanism seeks to denounce the existence of God.

Atheistic Luciferianism seeks to purposefully fight against God.

Both just wants to get God out of your life.

Lucifier in isaiah 14 was translated from the name - Heylel, which is Halal (islam's).

Want to get that written on your forehead and arms????!
