I recommend joining the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA). You can find them at www.eaa.org - this is the world's largest organization promoting and involved in "homebuilt" aircraft, including gliders. They have a tremendous volume of information available regarding engineering, design, materials, construction methods, going through the certification process, etc. By the way, gliders typically use very long, low aspect ratio wings, and a certain degree of spanwise flexibility is necessary to accomodate changing loads in flight. You want to get this stuff right, you will be the test pilot, and if it breaks in flight, you don't get another chance.

If you're really serious, the best place to start looking for information is the Experimental Aviation Association. Their web page is www.eaa.org.
