I have a document that is written on vellum .. dated 1717 the heading is obviously Latin with an impression of King George the one with porphyria I think but the body of text doesn't seem to be english or latin. It is hand scripted and we believe it is a title deed to a property ...????It is about 3ft by 4ft and I have it framed so its not all that portable .Any ideas for translators ??

Can't really help you without seeing it. However, Latin was in common use for official documents in those days. It was used in the royal seal, which you described on the document, and that use continues to this day. You said the text didn't seem to be English or Latin. Since the English of 1717 wasn't so different from that of today that it would be unrecognizable as such, I'm assuming that it must be some other language. As I recall, King George was a German. He never learned to speak English. I'm not aware of German being used for official English documents, but since you said it wasn't English or Latin, that would be my guess. It's the best I can do without seeing it.

I wish I ould help you but I can't do that without reading what is on the document. Perhaps you could have someone who deals with antiques and have an idea of its value. It is quite old and might be worth a lot of money.

Good luck in finding out

Don't keep us in suspense! Post some of the text, if you can make it out...

Otherwise, take it to Antiques Roadshow.

It's hard to say unless you can figure out what language it is. Could you perhaps post a little bit so people can see if they recognize it?
