Most of the people who were going to die of cancer have already died, so the death rate is now declining.

Cancer patients have reason to be hopeful in the United States. For the second year in a row there is proof that all the research on cancer is paying off.

A study released from the American Cancer Society found that 3,000 fewer people died of cancer in 2004 than in 2003. This could lead to 3,000 more people being survivors in the future.

If these trends continue someday there will be a cure for cancer. We all need to appreciate the time and work our researchers and doctors have done to make it possible that cancer could be eliminated in our lifetime.

Not really. I mean, are you writing from the point of view of a specific character, or is this for school, or what? If it's for school, you should use "big" words, but you don't have to use words that are rarely used. If it's a specific character, just write how that person would talk.
