I dont know if most elderly have a will. I am 25 and share one with my husband- we have 2 kids under 6. We live in Australia and did ours for free through the Public Trustee of QLD. You can also get a legal document written up which goes into detail about what you want done if you become incapable of looking after yourself, either byecause of aging or in an accident. When my dad died he left no will and there was mountains of paperwork to look through, and months of waiting for any money to come through from his superannuation, insurance fund. It is legal for anyone over 18 to have a will. I think it is essential, especially if you have children. We are making changes to our will shortly. No extra cost just time put aside for an appointment.

I think a lot of older people have wills...and you would not be able to change a will unless it was specified in the will.
