I don't really know what would cause this, aside from the fact that there's something there that he likes. Like when a dog licks your hand, because of the salt we have in our bodies.
Or he could be showing you that he recognizes you as the pack leader, and is trying to clean your bed. Animals have the weirdest ways of showing who the pack leader is! He could be hungry or thirsty. O having some type of anxiety, perhaps.

A few ways to get him to stop is when you catch him, grab his snout and tell him "don't lick", in a stern voice.

Flick him on the snout, carefully so you don't damage anything, and tell him not to lick.

Put something really nasty like, mild tobasco sauce, or anything else that he doesn't like, but won't hurt him, on a surface that you can easily wash the stuff off.

As for your sheets, I have no clue! Does he seems interested in his food? If not, he could be trying to get more salt.
Does he have enough toys, or maybe the right kind of toys? My dog has this thing about licking the floor where everyone walks. There's something there that's attracting him, but we can't figure out what it is. He's understanding "don't lick", and he's stopped a little.

You can always consult an animal behaviorist, or a trainer. They could help you more, if you can't get him to stop.

Let me know if/when you got him to stop, and how lol. I'd like to know this! Good luck!

My brothers daschund was a licker. ended up with a blocked up intestine from ingesting carpet fibers and human hair that he was constantly licking off of the carpet.

One of my beagles can be a licker sometimes. Mostly his own paws or his pack mates ears and sometimes human clothing or bedding. When we catch him in the act we give him a stern "no licking" We did use the bitter apple spray and that also helped. Spray both the object that the dog is likely to lick and then if you catch him in the act give the "no licking" and spray 'em right in the snout. Very effective. We haven't eliminated it totaly but have got it down to managable level. good luck.

my chihuahua likes to lick a lot too, so I know what you are going through. I'll wake up and she will have licked a large circle on the sheet next to me. she especially likes to lick me LOL, like my hand or inside my ear (don't ask!!!)

when I catch her licking, I don't yell at her, I distract her with something else, or I just talk to her in a soothing voice and she stops. and every once in a while I will let her lick my hand because it soothes her. I think they just want to taste us, their owners, for some odd reason.

Spray it with a prouct called Sour Apple. The stuff tastes horrible to dogs and makes the stop licking/chewing. I've gotten on my hands before and went to wipe my mouth and got it on my lips, licked my lips and it is stron stuff but wont hurt your dog.

That can be a stress behavior. What's going on with your dog right now? When does he do this? Are you having any other issues with him?

you should spray something non-toxic because if your dog starts licking himself it can turn into an infection.

Animals do that when they're feeling nervous or uneasy.

Pet him and give him lots of attention when he does that and he'll be less likely to do this.
