We have had Cuddles..AKA "Lil Bit" since she was 6 weeks old. She is now 4 1/2 months old and has now developed the habit of kneading and sucking on our hair while we sleep. She travels from room to room (unless I have locked her out!) and does the same thing to our daughters!! If we cannot break this habit, will she get sick or end up with some type of monsterous hairball???

My kitty does this too - and I also like it, it is very comforting. I always assumed it was because she wasn't properly weaned (she was a rescue), but that's just my guess! And ditto on the drooling thing - I thought she was sucking at first, but then realized that she was drooling and her nose was wet too. It's fun bonding for us both!
This info may apply more to you, as it references the sucking behavior (second question): http://www.vetinfo4cats.com/catchew.html
This was helpful to me, since it references the drooling and the behaviors that match what I see:

Nah, my aunt had a cat who did the same thing. A cat gets hairballs from grooming their fur, if they can't get it out of their mouth they swallow it. Human hair is different, we only have one layer, whereas cats have 2 and it's the second layer that does most of the shedding. Even if she swallows a bit of human hair, all it'll do is end up in her current hairball and will end up somewhere you're going to step on!

kittens are only like babies they pull hair and they chew on issues and they sleep alot. all you want to do is purchase them some toys to play with. you cant yell at slightly one or a kitten they are only being frequent kittens . as for the kneading kittens do this there is no longer some thing you may do about it.

I have a 12 yr old cat that has done this to me every night since we got her at 8 weeks old. I love the feel of it, as long as she keeps her claws in!

And she actually drools only when she does the hair thing. But she is fine and never had a problem.

If she's not eating it she'll probably be okay. Give her a little while to see if she grows out of the problem,

Worst case scenario: She gets a hairball from eating your hair and ends up with a bowel obstruction that requires surgery. If she doesn't grow out of it, take steps to discourage her from it (maybe spritz some bitter apple on your head before bed?)

Hope this helps

No. She is not ingesting the hair, she is exhibiting a comfort behaviour.
Many cats knead- my 13-year old kneads more than the 2-year old.

If your worried then stop the behavior. Make it unpleasant for her. Any time she does the behavior squirt her with some water. It doesn't hurt but they find it annoying. If you do a quick hiss at her when you do it she will learn that when she hears the hiss to stop and the water need not be used again.

Kittens kneed to say I Love You! it will not make her sick. I am more concerned about her sucking on your hair, if you have products in your hair ie: hair spray, moose, jell, etc... that may make her sick

No, my cat used to do that with my brothers hair. Its fine. She seems to enjoy the closeness and security so I would leave it. It sounds sweet!

She is just checking on everyone, make sure everyone is where they should be, then she says good night by playing with your hair. It shouldn't hurt her. Just don't let her eat it. If anything its just really cute!
