It is blacking out some pictures I took and won't let me watch some of the videos. I left it outside for an hour or so in the blazing heat of the summer. Did that destroy it? What do I do?

You may have broke it. Have you tried a different cassette, and also change the batteries. When it was sitting in the sun, was the viewfinder pointing up or down. If the sun light was able to shine into the viewfinder, (eyepiece) that may have harmed it. That's why you never leave the eyepiece pointing to bright sunlight. Good luck.

The manual that came with my tapless DV camera says do not leave in extreme heat. That may be why.
