This is a serious question.

To be honest, I do not see Jesus as even real [as a person even], so do not think I've accepted Corpsey McCorpse. I'm also not an Atheist or Agnostic, so don't even bring that bag of tricks out.

Why do Christians think it was some grand sacrifice for him to die on the cross? Most of them believe he was God incarnate, and thus immortal, and omnipotent, as well as omniscient. As God he would have obviously over powered death, and as omniscient, he would know he would.

For an example, if I ask to borrow 20 bucks, you hand it to me, and I hand it back, do you see that as a sacrifice?
The only real sacrifice is a small chunk of time out of an immortal beings life span. please, enlighten me on how you believe that to have been a sacrifice.

Uhm, I'm report all things that tell me to not worry, or what not. I want answers, not advice.

Also, how is it a sacrifice? It was God on that Cross to you, not a man. To the infinite, that was not even a paper cut.

"Why do Christians think it was some grand sacrifice for him to die on the cross?"

You have touched on the cusp of a holy mystery here. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, three beings, are yet one, single being. The Trinity. The Triune God. THree in One. Think of it as H2O: water, steam, and ice. All H2O, but 3 distinct forms.

So why was it a sacrifice to die? Well, it was a sacrifice ven to come to this earth! Jesus could have stayed up in heavenly, think Heavenly Hilton. He was there when God created the earth, but never appeared until born of a woamn. So he was around all this time, enjoying heaven. Angels at his beck and call, room service, whatever. But he chose to leave that to come to this earth. He was not in heaven w/ an earthly body though... that came when he was born of Mary and the Holy Spirit.

Of course Jesus, was 100% human. But he was also 100% God. You can't be 2oo% of anything, yet Christ embodied both man and diety. He struggled and faced the same things any mortal did, but didn't sin. Meaning he was tempted to lie, to have pride, to have sex, to cuss, but didn't do it. This is why he made the perfect sacrifice.

The only payment for sins is bloodshed. Before Christ, the Jews gave animal sacrifices to have their sins forgiven. The animlas had to be clean, unblemished (can't bring one w/ a broken leg or half-dying already). But the minute they turned and walked back to their tents and had an evil thought, the sin was back on them. That required another sacrifice to cover up their sins. But Jesus's blood actually REMOVED the sin, made it white as snow. Not dingy, not an eraser spot, but as if the sin never happened! And his blood was sufficient to forgive all sins, past, present, AND future. Whew, what a relief.

So yes, Jesus knew he would come back to life in 3 days. He even told his disciples such, and being men, they didn't believe or understand what he was saying. But he was a man. He suffered on that cross. He was whipped, beat, humiliated, and kept silent, accepting it all to be a sacrifice for the whole world. Even for the sins of the Roman soldiers beating him and spitting on him that very moment.

I'm not sure how your $20 example fits into all this, but if you want to discuss it further, email me. K?

Your right being betrayed by the nation you were sent to save was no big deal.....

Being killed by the people you love and care about is no big deal...

pardoning all the sins that we still live in today, just so we can go to heaven isn't a big deal...

Ohh and using money as the one thing God hates the most to prove a point that Jesus' death meant nothing. Well thats the same thing The Jews used to try and nurse their wounds when they sold Jesus for some silver over to the pharisees.

Yeah you tell God on judgement day that you dont think his sons death is important and you tell me how it goes.

But to answer your question the reason His death is important, is because although you don't understand the sin that you live in, before Jesus died the only way to get to heaven was by sacrafice and attonement of sins. So thanks to Jesus even though you reject him now soon in the future God will come before you and give you one last choice. And without Jesus we wouldnt have a choice we would all be sinners in Hell.

Now do me a favor and enlighten me why you deserve God's love without accepting his Son. Nowhere in the Bible does it say you can go to heaven on good works. It never says faith is the key to eternal life... Read John 3:16 accepting Gods son is the only way brother.

When Jesus was on this Earth in a physcial body He WAS NOT immortal.

Jesus talks about His Father, His Father is God The Father, which would make Jesus the Son Of God.

Jesus(HIS BODY) took the place of the animal sacrifices. He was the ultimate sacrifice, which is why people know longer have to sacrifice animals, even though the Jews will start it up again when the Antichrist rebuilds the Temple of Jerusalem. That is because they rejected Jesus.

When Jesus died the curtain that covered the doorway to the Holy of Holies was torn in half, which meant that people no longer had to go through a priest or the High priest to ask for forgivness. The curtain was torn to show that people themselves can now ask God for forgivness through Jesus Christ.

There has to be shedding of blood. The blood of the lamb, Jesus is the Lamb

You shouldn't compare your life to a 20 dollar bill...... I am not a heavy duty Christian, but I was brought up to believe in the power of Jesus and to believe in what the Bible says is true. If someone refuses to believe this, and refuses to let it into the heart and mind, they will never understand or feel the awesome power and strength one can receive through faith.

Every ones interpretation of the Bible is different, and yet, not so different. So, people may feel the sacrifice of Jesus's life was a great sacrifice because life is the greatest gift there is and we should Cherish it.. Jesus was God's only son, and he was given so that whoever should believe in him should also have everlasting life... (its in John 3:16)

I have one child... I would have a hard time giving him up even if I knew he would come back.....

have you ever read the the Bible or have you ever had someone interpret it for you? It is hard to explain by typing...

I wish you good luck with this. I hope you find peace!
Peace out bro!!

It was a sacrifice. At any time he could have said that he was not the king of the jews. At any time, he could have asked for Pilate's protection. Jesus died, shedding his innocent blood, paying the highest price (his life!!) for us.

How is that taking $20 and handing it back?

Jesus took the form of a human being, thus, as a human alone, he was not immortal. He felt all the pain, he suffered. He experienced this death in no less a way than any one of us would have felt a beating and then being nailed to a cross. His eternal life and his promise to us for eternal life comes from his rising from the dead.

If you really want to learn more about what Jesus experienced, there are college courses (in regular community colleges and up) as well as study courses offere through churches. Don't simply take my word on it, get out there and see and read for yourself.

Jesus is God in the flesh. He is 100 percent God, but 100 percent man. When Jesus cried out to God, God would not here him, because he had taken on the sin nature that was ours. And God cannot look into sin, so he was tormented that way. Also he received many lashes, and they tore out his flesh. They mocked him, by placing a crown of thorns on his head. They spit in his face, gave him vinegar to drink, and they released a serial killer in his place. Ane he suffered the agony of the cross. Also he was thrown into hell for three days and nights, but death couldn't keep him. Because God saw that the punishment was worthy. You got to remember he was perfect and sinless so he was the only sacrifice that would be worthy of forgiving us. Jesus was the first born from the dead.

This is a better example you commit a serious crime and are sentenced to three months in prison. A man you don't even know, sells everything he has, and pays your fine. Given that the fine can be paid for. Now that is what God did. The punishement that should have been ours, went on Jesus.

If 1 sin Adam brings God judgement
Then 1 sinless Jesus Brings God forgiveness

To answer the 1st part. Is Jesus real. There are multiple historical sources that document Jesus existence other than the Bible. Just about all other religions also acknowledge Jesus as a real person.
2ND part. Jesus relinquished his royal God ship out of love for each of us. He became 100% man to walk life as we walk it but without sin. This in itself broke the power of sin on his own life. Next as a sacrifice he took our sin upon him. He paid a price that we owed. It wasn't that he borrowed 20 bucks and gave it back. He gave 20 million bucks with interest on a debt that we borrowed and could not pay back. Then as we owed him, he said its enough that u just except that I paid it. He suffered the most cruel, most painful death that was ever created. Because of love for ...yes you. And he would do it again if it was required.
What have you ever sacrificed for another?

You are right, as a Christian I have mulled the same thought over and over in my own head. If he died, but was brought back to life, was it really a sacrifice? My own answer is that it had to be done that way. He did sacrifice, he felt pain and seperation from his father, something that only up until then we humans were only capable of feeling. I like the fact that my God was willing to put himself in a human realm to show us a glimpse of himself and what he was willing to do to bring us back in a right relationship with him. I'm not to good getting my point across, but hopefully this makes a little sense. I like your question, very intelligent and refreshing, keep searching with an open mind and your answer will come.

Well, our punishment was a lot more than physical death. Our real punishment is being apart from God for all eternity.
When Jesus was on the cross, He took our sins upon Himself. So God the Father gave Him the punishment for the sins: He removed Himself from Jesus.
Jesus had had a perfect relationship with God the Father, because He was God the Son. So it was a terrible, horrible thing when God removed Himself from Him. Because all good things come from God, and when God is absent, there’s nothing good.

When Christ died he died as a sacrifice for our sin. He paid a price for us.
That is what the death is all about. Not just that he rose again but that he was willing to take our sin upon himself that we might be forgiven for sin. God does not look upon sin so when Christ took our sin then God turned his face from Christ. That is why Christ said, "My God, my God, why do you forsake me." Dispair in being seperated from God. Even though the three are one I cannot explain the mystery of the seperation at that moment.
The only other way to be forgiven for sin was to keep the whole law. That is what the only way the Jewish people were forgiven from sin, before Christ' death.
The law was to show us what sin is. And within the law they could be perfect or complete and forgiven from sin with a sin offering like the blood of a lamb. But you cannot keep the whole law. People are too full of sin.
That is why the blood of Christ was so important.
