Luke 16, comes to mind....off the top of my head.
Revelation 20:11-15 also
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence.
16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

A good place to start to read about hell is Jesus' own words in Luke 16:19-31. Some people think this was a parable, or made up object lesson, but Jesus mentions specific people. Hell is described as a place torment, flame, and separation from God. People in Hell are conscious, suffering, and can remember their life on earth.
From there if you go to Revelation 20, John the Apostle describes what will happen at the end of time, when "death and hell" give up everyone that is in them to be judged according to their works (if their names aren't in the Book of Life), and then they are sentenced to an even worse place known as the "Lake of Fire" - for ever.
These are two basic references, if you want others try these:
Matt 25:41 - Hell was originally prepared for Satan, but non-believers will be there as well. (see also Isaiah 5:14 and 2 Peter 2:4)
Matthew 16:18 - Hell cannot prevail against Jesus' church.
There are more references, but these are basic...hope this gives you a starting point to study for yourself.

I can list verses, if you like. But "hell" in the Old Testament meant "the grave," or "death." "Hell" in the New Testament was an allegory, and used the valley of Gihon as an example of eternal regret. I can't think of any Biblical example where hell is presented as an actual place of eternal torment - the word is always "Gehenna," or the Valley of Gihon.
The terms "Hades" and "Tartarus" are both borrowed from Greek mythology, and so would also appear to represent allegorical principles. The most we know from Scripture is that the afterlife exists, that it offers punishment for the wicked and reward for the righteous.

To my knowledge, the Bible does not use the word "hell" but instead describes the everlasting damnation of those who do not believe. Matthew 25 is a good example. Basically, the seperation from God is "hell" .It is frequently described as the "lake of fire" (Revelations) It is described as a place where the unbelievers will be sent where their will be constant "knashing of teeth and torment" It is also referred to as "sheol" which is a constantly burning dump outside a city's walls that is fuel with brimstone...thus the fire and brimstone analogy. Considering that Satan is the ruler and master of hell and will eventually be returned to hell where he will be imprisoned forever, I tend to believe that it is an actual place not merely a "thought".

You can go to http://www.biblegateway.com and use their search engine. Just type in "hell" w/o the quotes and all verses that mention hell specifiically thru the Bible will pop up.
There are probably many other verses that refer to hell w/o calling it such; not sure what key words to tell you to search for those.
