Who knows? But unless the outfit actually looks like a wedding dress, I don't see what the problem is. White didn't even become the norm for wedding dresses until Queen Victoria wore a white dress at her wedding (No, virginity had nothing to do with it.)

I really don't think they want to upstage the bride, it's a matter of etiquette and they are not aware of that fact. As far as the mother wearing white, what in the world is she thinking, right?

I do not believe there is any set in stone rule about a guest wearing white to a wedding that is not there's, however for the Groom's Mother to be the one dressed in white. That's just wrong. Did you ever see, Monster In Law with Jane Fonda, it's as funny as can be. Jane Fonda showed up to her son's wedding wearing a beautiful white dress. However J-Lo was not going to allow it and the two started fighting. J-Lo won and Jane Fonda changed.

Why not ? you can never upstage a bride at her wedding !anyway the bride wearing white at the wedding has lost its true meaning now ! my first wife wore white at our wedding even though she was 3 months pregnant! but as for upstaging the bride not possible as it is her day as much as I hate to admit it I told my little sister that she looked beautiful when she got wed and I stand by that statement 20years later tho time and three kids have taken its toll both on her figure and my bro in laws hairline

I saw a guest at a wedding wear a bright white suit. She's on her second marriage. Just not sure why, though.

sounds like my mother in law. When I turned around she had MY bouquet and was taking pics with her husband( my hubbies step dad) under MY arch.
I don't think anyone but the bride is supposed to wear white.
I'd slap her.
