I am amazed that some people think we are not in awe of life, that we are not passionate about anything.

I see some people seeming to think that Atheists are Atheists in response to theists. They don't realize it is not a response to them. It is independent thinking and would go on with or without theists on the planet.

'What misconceptions do people have about Atheists and Atheism? "

That somehow being an athiest makes you a better human being.

U.S.S.R./Lenin/Stalin: between 20-40 million dead

Pohl Pot/Khmere Rouge: 2 million dead

Mao Tse-Tung/China between 40 to 60 million dead

Ho Chi Minh/Cong San 1 Million deaths

Tito's Yugoslavia 1 million deaths

Mass murders occurred under the communist/socialist regimes of Fidel Castro in Cuba, Kim Il Sung's North Korea, Sandinista's in Nicaragua, Laos, and Ethiopia. And of course, there's the suppression of freedom of speech, freedom in general, the devestation done to the environment, etc.

All the result of communists who were militant athiests and tried to irradicate religion.

I guess they didn't share your "awe of life". Being an athiest isn't a magic wand that suddenly makes you this great enlightened being, no more so than claiming to be religious does.

Well, as a Christian, I can honestly say that I don't think/believe that Atheists are not in awe of life, at all. Beyond my point of view, I can't imagine why any Christian/Jew/Muslim/Buddhist on and on, would even begin to think/believe that. No matter what religious belief/non-belief, Atheists live on the planet Earth, how can anyone not be in "awe of life". I think you raised a very provocative question.

I think a lot of people, just can't believe that you don't have faith in a higher power. I have had many a person try to convince me about "god" and Jesus" or "the bible says"... I guess it is hard to understand what is outside your realm of thinking, so these people are just trying to bring us to what they do understand. No one has ever accused me of being with out awe or passion, but many have tried to make me see things their way.

These always piss me off.

1. Atheists don't believe in abstract concepts like love.

2. Atheists are constantly depressed.

3. Atheists hate God.

4. Atheists have no morals.

I'm not an atheist, but I've seen people several times state that people are atheists because they don't want to have to answer for an immoral lifestyle. I have seen many moral atheists (as well as immoral believers), and have known some atheists. People choose atheism because it is what they believe.

christians, in ignorance, like to paint skeptics any way that tickles their fancy, but the most prominent misconception is that atheist have been decieved and are in accordance with satan's will.

I just think they don't believe in God or something like and an afterlife. Like we're here and we die and then that's it. True?
