I have problems irrigating the two wisdom teeth holes on the bottom of my mouth, and they both got infected. Is there any way to prevent them getting infected again after the cotton packing is removed from the flushed wounds?
Also, would avoiding having particles of food get stuck inside the holes by staying on a liquid/yogurt diet help prevent infection?
Thanks in advance!

I am on 500 mg pennecillin every 4 hours, but that won't help me once it is gone.

Gently let salt water (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 1 cup of warm water) wash over the wounds by tilting your head from side to side if you cannot gargle good. If you just recently had those pulled (like 3 days or less ago), it is normal for the area to ooze some yellow-white bloody stuff. I found that liquids seem to get all over my mouth and in the area. Some foods that I felt I had more control over not getting in the wounds are chopped avocado with salt and pepper, peas, baked potato, chopped pieces of meat or lunch meat pieces, and jello. I think the yogurt with the milk sugar made my mouth feel icky when I couldn't wash it well. But you may have good luck with the yogurt. Yogurt is good for your digestive system when you're taking antibiotics. Drinking carbonated drinks and out of a straw can dislodge the clot in there and give you a dry socket. Going on a liquid diet is not a good idea. You need better food so your body can heal itself. Those artificial vitamins in liquid diets just are not as good for you as real food.
If it is not too early in the healing process, rinsing with some baking soda and hydrogen peroxide with water may help. But it may be too early for that. Your dentist should tell you when you can start using hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. If it gets infected, tell your dentist to give you more antibiotics. You can tell if it gets infected when you start swelling more after 3 days of having those pulled or if your pain is getting worse. If your dentist won't give you more antibiotics and there's an infection, go to a doctor or another dentist.

All doctors will give you antibiotics and will recommend you to wash with salted water. Dentists will recommend you to remove them. I believe, to remove is the best decision. Wisdom teeth infection newer end. That usually coming back so often. Of course, you can take antibiotics every time, but that is really bad for you, because they such as bad side effects, witch can case some digestive system problems, like Colitis, Enteritis IBS. OK, just think about, may be better to take them off. Happy if my advice help you. I just did mine because of the same problems. Good Luck to you. Oh, one more thing, do not be afraid that is not painful. If you decide to do this. dentist will give you anesthesia and you will feel nothing. Take care.

Ask your dentist, I had mine taken out, everything was fine, then I got a dry socket and had a dull ache for a couple of days. The dentist did something to relieve it. After they healed they were just fine. I now make sure I brush back there every time so particles don't get lodged and stick there..

Have you tried those plastic teeth covers some folks with braces wear when eating? I think they use an adhesive like for dentures.
You definitely do not want food particles in those wounds.
