I'm attending the wedding of two Marine Corp. privates tomorrow who have just finished boot camp and are due to be deployed overseas. As one gift, I'm giving them a bottle of very good champayne. However, I want to include champayne glasses. I have a pair that were last used thirty-six years ago toasting my wedding, which ended in divorce. I wanted to pass these glasses on to my daughter, but she has no plans to marry even though she is living with a Marine. Although, this young couple are not related to me, I thought they may enjoy and have better longevity with the glasses than I. Should I give them to the USMC privates or save them for my daughter's wedding? Help. . . the wedding is tomorrow at Noon.

Does your daughter have to get married to receive the family heirlooms?
Maybe check with her and see if she would be offended if you gave them to the other couple. Even though she does not have plans to marry, she might be very touched to hear that you had been saving them for her.

I think family heirlooms (items used by family) should stay in the family. I don't think giving a used wedding gift is appropriate. Just because your daughter has no plans to marry at this present time doesn't mean she never will. There is hope if she is living with someone.

Although the thought is very nice, I think you should give them to your daughter. It doesn't matter if she ever gets married, she may want the remembrance of her parents wedding. If course, you could always ask her if she wants them, and if she doesn't want them, give them to the other couple.

I think you should keep them in case your daughter changes her mind and wants to get married....it happens you know...like someone else said giving used glasses at a wedding isnt a good idea unless they are family because it holds special meaning. Have fun.

Honestly hand me downs are great when they are your family, but if they are from someone you are only friendly with, it's tacky. I would save them for your daughters wedding, or just give them to her. You have no sentimental value to them, so why wait?

Hum, if I were you, I would just give the Champange. To give used glasses is slighty tacky. On top of it, giving glasses, from your marriage that ended in divorce?? Bad Mojo. Don't give the glasses, keep them for your next marriage if you want. If your daughter doesn't want them (ask her), give them away to charity. Bad Karma to keep them around.
