The best way to potty train a girl, is to first wait until they are ready.

Then, commit to training her. This means NOT switching between diapers and pullups.

Start by asking her if she has to us he potty. regardless of her answer, tell her that you want her to try just incase.

Take her to her potty and make her pull her pants down (or assist until she learns).

Once she sits on the potty, tell her shes such a big girl and that your proud of her. Then tell her to push (make like your pushing to so she knows what to do).

Once she goes, get really excited and praise her. You can use whatever works for her as a reward (small piece of candy, extra play time outside, ect..). Sometimes, praise is enough.

Continue doing this every 30 mins or so for about a week - 2 weeks (uping the inbetween time to every 45 to an hour) or to until you notice that she is going potty less as a "mistake" and more as a real dea. You can then switch to underwear (pull ups at night still). Accidents will get her attention more this way and continue to keep your time consistent and gradually increasing it as she does better.

After about a month or two, she will be potty trained if you follow this method. This is what my baby sitter does and she has potty triained about 9 girls in the past year. All of which have been fully potty trained within a month or two. I hope this helps!

Most of the answers already posted are good, but remember to listen to everybody then think for yourself using common sense. I'm not sure why American children are so difficult to train. Many countries have children running around with no pants on at all and yet they don't "go" all over the small shanty or living area. Oh well, I guess we're too smart. LOL
Simply take your little girl to the bathroom with you, not making much of an event. Remember that you can't make a human eat, sleep or eliminate. So simply take her when you go letting her sit on her own potty. You can mention that she'll want to always do what mommy does and remind her that she is a very nice lady now. I would go ahead and put her into panties, although unless you have hardwood floors, putting plastic pants ontop of these (if they can still be found.) It won't take but a couple of days, and in as little as 3 days. Be sure and only offer water for drinking. Tea, colas, sugared drinks don't do well in the young bladder. You want her urine to be clear as possible. I know this will work. You'll have to decide and then show other mothers how to do it right. :) God Bless.

WAIT WAIT WAIT till she is about 2 and a half, then it will go SOOOO quickly.

When you get up in the morning, tell her she is a BIG girl now, and big girls go on the potty, not in there diapers. Tell her they get to wear big girl panties, and only babies wear diapers.

Take off her diaper, and never put in on again. make a point of "throwing away" all of her diapers, and getting out her new BIG GIRL underwear.

Let her run around in nothing or underwear all day. Show her where the potty is, but don't bug her. After she has her first accident, tell her it is okay, sometimes we have accidents, but BIG GIRLS pee pee in the potty. Take her to the potty and try to have her sit on it.
After 1 or 2 accidents, she will realize she doesn't like it, and will go in and use the potty when she has to go.

Limit drinks before naps and bed.

Use panties at nap, but you can use a nighttime pull-up for bed time. Just explain, that ahe needs to put on her "princesses" just in case she has an accident while she sleeps.

I just did this and it works great.

Whenever she goes pee, she gets a sticker and some coins for her piggy bank, and whenever she poops, she gets a cookie, and a handfull of change or a dollar bill. Once she goes all night in panties --- "Is truly pottytrained" - She can take her bank to the store and buy a present.

You will save LOTS of money by not buying diapers, so go crazy with the coins and stickers!!! She will love them.
I got a sheet of posterboard from wal-mart with ballons on it, and a POTTY-TIME scrapbooking sticker set,a nd put them in the ballons, and she gets to put stickers on it everytime she goes.

I hope all goes well. !!!!!!!

well " laittree" pretty much summed it up but as i too am potty training my daughter, i have found that 1st introduce her to the "potty" then have her sit on it every half hour. She will soon begin to understand this process and go sit on her own... Also have her wear either pullups or panties with no pants it seems to help remind them that they are suppose to use the "potty'.. I also found an Elmo goes potty doll that she just loves!! Most importantly.. BE PATIENT this takes time and lots of accidents before your daughter is fully potty trained.

First, no sippy cups at night or bottles!
Then, if the child has a fave "treat" ( my daughters was the lil smarties candy rolls) they get it ONLY after using the potty instead of their pants. Make sure you always have the treat!
I also took my lil girl to the store and showed her the "big girl" panties ( he wanted silky ones with barbie on them), pick out a couple pair and this is the goal - to get to wear these when she doesn't potty in her pants anymore.
Use lots of encouragement, praise and patience.
Let her go in with you and watch you in the bathroom - she will learn good skills such as washing hands afterwards and such too.

This is where to start:
You don't have to wait until you've checked off every item to start training. Just look for a general trend toward independence and an understanding of what it means to go to the bathroom like a grown-up.

Physical signs

Is coordinated enough to walk, and even run, steadily.

Urinates a fair amount at one time.

Has regular, well-formed bowel movements at relatively predictable times.

Has "dry" periods of at least three or four hours, which shows that his bladder muscles are developed enough to hold urine.

Behavioral signs

Can sit down quietly in one position for two to five minutes.

Can pull his pants up and down.

Dislikes the feeling of wearing a wet or dirty diaper.

Shows interest in others' bathroom habits (wants to watch you go to the bathroom or wear underwear.

Gives a physical or verbal sign when he's having a bowel movement such as grunting, squatting, or telling you.

Demonstrates a desire for independence.

Takes pride in his accomplishments.

Isn't resistant to learning to use the toilet.

Is in a generally cooperative stage, not a negative or contrary one.

Cognitive signs

Can follow simple instructions, such as "go get the toy."

Understands the value of putting things where they belong.

Has words for urine and stool.

Understands the physical signals that mean he has to go and can tell you before it happens or even hold it until he has time to get to the potty.

With both of my girls, I took them to the bathroom when I went. They had their own little potty that they sat on.

I started at about 18 months. At first they just sat with me in the bathroom with their diapers on. Then we took the diapers off when they got to be around 2 years old.

With my oldest, it was a piece of cake. Every time I went in the bathroom, she came in with me and sat on her potty and I ran the water in the sink. BINGO! She'd go every time!

Then I just praised the heck out of them. I did a lot of talking to them, asking them if they had to go. Telling them to tell me if they DID have to go.

It helps to have a favorite book by the potty so they don't get bored sitting there. We also sang songs.

Looking back, with both my girls, I spent a lot of time in the bathroom! *grin*
