Small dogs were bred with other small dogs from the same breed until the desired size was reached. They can be slightly more prone to inherited disease as there was some inbreeding back in the bad old days.

You don't want to get anything smaller than a mini (or toy in the case of a poodle). Tea-cups are not recognized by the AKC and are the results of plain irresponsible breeding (but they too are the result of breeding small individuals with small individuals)

Hope this helps

Dogs that are true miniatures such as the Italian Greyhound, are regular size greyhounds that were a bit smaller than average. The smaller dogs were selected to be breed with other dogs of a smaller size until the ideal miniature size was accomplished. There are many breeds of dogs that have been selected to get to a miniature size, but there are dogs such as the min pin, that are a completely different breed and are not breed from Doberman pinchers, they are called Manchester terriers.

Some larger types were bred with existing smaller ones for the purpose of having a hunting breed that was smaller so it was able to go into animal dens, such as fox or rabbit holes. Over time, these breeds became pets not used for hunting anymore.

Yes. 12 years ago there used to be a stray beagle walking around my nearby. Numerous people have been involved when she became pregnant because she was once a small canine and we hadn't seen any small males jogging unfastened. She seemed like she used to be getting very tremendous, although it became out that she used to be less than two weeks earlier than her due date. She had the pups with none crisis, and the father have got to had been colossal considering that the pups all grew up to be about 50 pounds. Nevertheless, it is essential to get veterinary attention for a pregnant canine in case there are any problems or problems. Taking it to a no-kill shelter is a good idea. It could even be good to let each person know concerning the min-pin and motivate them to donate to the refuge to duvet the expenditures.
