My wife recently let my brother tool around with my subs and amp in my car. Now when I turn my lights on in the car the speakers humm really loud. If I turn the stereo off the noise stops. Any ideas before I go rewiring the whole thing. Also he didn't mess with the stereo head, just the subs and amp.

Check that the RCA jacks are correct, also check the speaker wires, and last but not least check the ground wire.

It could be interference from your alternator that shows up under the extra load of your lights, but probably not. The first thing I would do is check all the grounds to make sure you don't have a problem there. It sounds like a bad connection, so you may have to rewire the whole thing to find it. Good luck.

Get your brother to untool around with your subs and amp... (i dont let anyone touch my system other than a certified installer) ... if he cant return it to normal, it could be the ground wire... could be interference from your altenator or other electronic accessories... if your ground is good and you see no real problems with the system, get a inline noise suppressor from Walmart... not bad... i use one... no probs with the whine/humm since would run you about 15-ish bucks...

Hope this helps somewhat

You need a noise killer

PAC SNI-1

check the ground wire on the amp. You may be better off just rewiring it and saving yourself alot of time.

why would your missus let your brother mess with your subs ? firstly I would ask him what he did then ask him to put it back in order mind you when I switch on my home movie system it hums a bit until it is playing a film then it is ok but ask your brother what he did first !!!!
