Boy this is hard to answer.

The faith let me down by being homophobic, anti-intellectual (at least on the congregational level), giving solace to bigotry, building barriers between people via sectarian boundaries.

However, once out of Christianity, I took a hard look at the entire mythological structure and the claim that it represented God. The literature of the Bible and other writings showed this was far from the truth. So after leaving because I felt out of place, I discovered that the religion was out of place in reality.

Christianity and other religions are just a way to help cope with anxiety brought on by living and dying. At least in Buddhism, they admit this.

1) christians say they are of love, i got a nasty letter from my birth mother telling me im a liar and a thief and i need Jesus, this was when i was christian

2) the people make excuses saying that either the people that hurt me werent true christians, or some other cop out excuse. Ive had it with the excuses, either christians are loving and tolerant or they are not!

3) ive had friends beaten up by christians, my husband was threatened with his life, and i almost got fired because a christian felt a Pagan shouldnt be working there.

4) out of the blue i told a friend i believed in reincarnation, i felt that some inner conscience was talking to me, perhaps it was the God christians seek so much, i think it was definantly something spiritual trying to tell me something. When i was younger i talked to spirits and my mom took me to a psychiatrist to try to get me to stop. Im still not happy about what she did.

I'm still a christian but from what Ive seen most of you have had bad experiences with other people who claim to be christians. Did you think that maybe they themselves have fallen away? Keep your eyes on God not the people around you! As for praying for bad things not to happen to you and yet they did, take these words...

1. This is a fallen creation.
2. God doesn't dance on your strings.
3. And often times bad stuff is self inflicted.

Since I believe that all religions have value, I would say Christianity did not let me down. I believe we are naturally attracted to a belief system until we extract all value from it and then move on. I must say I extracted value from Christianity, then moved on.

well to me there was too much hypocrisy and it was mostly about the money they wanted me there all the time it was like i couldn't take care of any personal issues that might have arrived anyway the more i went to church the more i became skeptical about it all it didn't help much that i wasn't strong on faith to begin with and then it was so judgemental and so much ignorance was being spread that's how i felt anyway i just couldn't take it anymore i realized that both catholicism and protestantism and the whole of christianity wasn't for me anyway i'm agnostic and i'm looking into all different possibilities

Oh it never let me down. It just never picked me up. I was a Christian for eleven years before my conversion. OO

Christian people let me down. I feel myself slipping further away daily and I was once a "born again" on fire evangelical. Peace :-)

It didn't let me down. Deism just made more sense to me.

It hasn't. I'd say it was an important stepping stone for where I am now.
