Probably not. You (your consciousness) is an artifact of your brain, so when that dies, you're gone for good. If your hamster dies, does it go to heaven? No. So why should you be any different?

That's the 'big' one isn't it?
Firstly, I don't think organised religion has the answer.
Scientifically speaking, it's unproven that the body has a soul, so science would lean towards 'no'.
Some people have claimed to have near death experiences which could be argued to be evidence of life after death. However, explanations can be found for this, too. Also, some of them may be made up.
There is also some evidence for reincarnation. People have remembered past lives and could explain details about places they had never been. However, some of these cases have also been explained away - people were remembering details from books their parents read to them when they were infants!
Finally, there is the other question: Why are we here? Surely there is some reason, surely we don't just 'exist' and that's that? That would seem like a cruel joke.
So... I hope the answer is yes, but I'm prepared to accept that the answer is 'no'

Well, i hope that there is such thing as life after death but no one knows for sure. The only way you can find out is if you die. It would suck if nothing happens after death. I believe in reincarnation. I believe that heaven and hell is on earth. If you're a good person in life then you'll have a good life next time around, that would be heaven and if you're a bad person then the next time around you'll have a bad life and that would be hell. My life sucks and if feels like i'm living in hell so i think that in my previous life i was a bad person.

Classic Jewish works such as Maavor Yabok describe the process of entering the higher world of life as a reflection of the soul's experiences while within the body: If the soul has become entrenched in material pleasures, she experiences the pain of ripping herself away from them so that she can experience the infinitely higher pleasure of basking in G-dly light. If she is soiled and injured by acts that sundered her from her true self while below, then she must be cleansed and healed. On the other hand, the good deeds and wisdom she has gained on her mission below serve as a protection for her journey upwards. You want a real good spacesuit to make this trip.

I don't believe in a specific life after death, but some sort of awareness may be there. I hope there is, but if not I won't care. My Dad had an interesting experience after my Mom died. For months before she died she would occasionally blurt out a word that neither she nor my Dad knew the definition of. My Dad would look it up in the dictionary. A couple of days after she died my Dad heard her voice as clear as if she were next to him say "nascent". My Dad did not know what it meant so he looked it up. One of the meanings is "a new beginning". My Dad is the last guy to make up anything and he did not even share it with me until years later. I am so glad he did. It gave me hope. I am still an atheist because I do not believe any possible afterlife has anything to do with a god.

I believe in life after death for two reasons. First, I was raised as a Christian and it's what I believe. Secondly, I have read a book and seen on TV interviews about people (mainly children) that have had near death experiences and they explain something which is "life after death".

I have had a personal experience with a dead person. Absolutely there is something that continues on and exists after death.
Please don't tell me that I am doing drugs. I and about 8 other people had contact with a dead relative on a ongoing basis for
over 1 year.
So yes I absolutely believe that there is some life force that continues on. Just because you have never experienced it doesn't mean that it is not real.

Yeah....I believe in life after death....
Maybe not a life like I'm living now, but I believe there's another dimension that our conscious goes to and all the other "consciouses" that have died before us are there.
This has nothing to do with heaven and hell because I don't believe in either.
Just my own personal theory.

Yes there is an afterlife. Your soul is eternal. There is Heaven or Hell. It comes down to what you do about the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Do you believe it or disbelieve it?
Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.
Say this simple prayer,
"God, I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for me and was raised from the dead. Save me now please. In Jesus Name, Amen."
If you meant business you will be in Heaven. If not I will continue to pray for you.

Isn't this a song by Cher? I think Cher is the perfect proof that there is life after death.
