Do Christian women cover their hair in the cathedrals of Europe?

I am a Muslim women, and I cover my hair with a scarf. The other day at work, a lady complimented my scarf, and said that her sister had bought her one just like it to wear when she goes to the cathedrals in Europe. Is it true that women cover their hair when they enter the old Christian cathedrals? If so, why then, and not in "regular" churches?

The practice used to be required for women in all churches, prior to the liberalization of some church practices in the late 1960's.

Now it is optional, whether in a cathedral or regular church.

Many people, especially non-Catholics, don't know this, so they wear the head covering so as not to offend.

It's considered bad manners not to. In those old cathedrals, yeah, I would. Just like I took my shoes off when I entered a mosque. I'd feel really guilty if I did something offensive in a place that's holy, even if it's not my tradition.

Though I went to a decommissioned cathedral in Mexico and I didn't cover my head there. But it was more like a museum.

Old-school Christian women probably do cover their hair in regular churches (more common in Catholic or Orthodox churches.) As far as the other churches...hats and head scarves aren't as "necessary" in the culture as they used to be, and wearing head coverings is more of a fashion statement than a requirement.

Some Jewish women cover their heads in public--some wear WIGS to cover their own hair because they really take the hair-covering seriously. Like, a scarf and a wig and then their own hair. But that's more in Orthodox Jewish communities--I don't know about Conservative Jews. Reform Jews aren't much into head-covering.

Not all of them do. I toured some European cathedrals, and I can't remember any of the women having covered their heads.

Some women might do this because they feel a special reverence about the older cathedrals or because it is their custom to do so. Some men still take off their hats in churches or in a cathedral, following the old custom.

There are so many different versions of Christianity out there. Some do have the women wear clothing and scarves very similar to Muslim women, others simply ask that you be modest and clean, while others still don't care how their members dress. It all has to do with which denomination of Christianity you're talking about in particular.

Yes and No, Older generations seem to do that but it also might depend where in Europe you come from and how strictly the Cathedral enforces it.

In accordance with God's Word the Holy Bible, we are told that a woman's Hair is her covering. ( It would be a shame for a woman to shave her head, since God gave her her long hair as a covering for her head.
1 Corinthians 11:13 Judge in yourselves , is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
1 Corinthians 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

old tradition in the Catholic church was that women kept their heads covered while in the sanctuary of the church. this was a sign of respect and humility before our Lord.

as a Protestant kid, once in a while I would attend church with my Catholic grandparents and my grandmother would bobby pin an unused kleenex to my head.

YES THEY DO AND EVEN IN THIS COUNTRY MANY BRETHREN BIBLE MEETINGS REQUIRE THEIR FEMALES TO COVER THEIR HEAD, AND IF YOU FORGET YOUR SCARF YOUR SUPPOSE TO HOLD YOUR HAND ON YOUR HEAD OR PUT THE HYMN BOOK ON YOUR HEAD. THE WOMEN ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO STAY QUIET AND LET THE MALES DO ALL THE PRAYING AND EXPLAINING THE SCRIPTURES. IN MOST OF THE LARGE DENOMINATION CHURCHES THE WOMEN CONSIDER THEMSELVES LIBERATED AND MANY OF THE CHURCHES HAVE WOMEN PRIESTS AND PREACHERS. IN BIBLE TIMES WOMEN WERE SUPPRESSED BY MEN - - - ITS IN THE BIBLE -- - - AND EVEN NOW-A-DAYS . HOW MANY WOMEN PRESIDENTS HAVE BEEN ELECTED ANS. " NONE " REMEMBER THESE OLD RELIGIOUS BOOKS WERE CONCOCTED BY MEN PER SAY- - WOMEN WERE KEPT SILENT.
