I have a male 6 year old mutt. It is now January; back in November, he lost his constant companion and then in December we moved from the home he grew up in. I now find that the dog is constantly clinging to me. He is everywhere I go. I can't leave a room without him there at my side. Also, if my husband and I hug he is always whining and barking when we do this. It does tend to get a tad annoying. Does anyone have words of wisdom that I can use to help these situations?

He's lost 2 things that meant the world to him. His true home & his companion. I would try getting him another playmate(not that it could ever REALLY take the place of the past one).

Animals have alot of the same emotions that we as humans have. When we lose someone we love, we get depressed; want to constantly be around someone or something to help with the consoling process.

He just needs attention--Give him the attention he needs & eventually things will be somewhat back to the norm.

Good Luck!

He's missing his companion, he is no longer in the surroundings he was accustomed to, he's probably very confused. Losing a companion, can be very stressful to a dog. He doesn't understand and is probably wondering what happened to his playmate. This happened to me and the only solution after I tried everything, was to get another playmate. After the adjustment period, the difference was unbelievable. He was so much happier, to have someone to play with.

I think he is lonely and missing his companion. Also you moved and that is probably scary for him to be in different surroundings. Maybe you should go down to your local animal shelter and pick out a dog. Take him with you to be sure they get along. You can help your dog and save a dog from death. I think this is the solution. Good Luck, Please don't get upset at your dog. It has to be heart breaking for your dog to have lost his best friend. Bless his heart.

My dog follows me around everywhere even though he has a companion but in your case you may have to cushion that void that your dog is feeling by getting him another dog or something to help him through this time of loneliness and fast!!!

Get him a new buddy. He's probably lonely being the only dog in the house. He should be able to get along with any other dog you get; sounds like he is sweet and friendly.

He has been thru some big changes in a short period of time. I suggest getting another dog, preferably a female adult(spayed). He will turn his attentions to his new furry friend.
